Re: [talk-ph] Search by address on Garmin

2011-05-06 Thread Eugene Alvin Villar
Hi Carlos,

To add to what Maning said, there is already some address data in OSM and
it's already searchable in other tools.

The OSM-PH Garmin map is compiled using the mkgmap software and the
developers are still trying to make it fully work. You can read an overview
of some of the issues here:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Mkgmap/known_issues#Address_search

In the meantime, we should continue adding address data into the OSM
database because it's immediate useful for other people who don't use the
Garmin map. :-)

Eugene

Dear carlos,

There are some experimental implementations of address search. I
haven't looked into it in detail. But please do add address
information more data means more opportunity to debug the mkgmap
algorithms.

[talk-ph] Search by address on Garmin

2011-05-05 Thread Carlos Tirona
Been wondering about this for quite some time.

Why is it that I can't search by address on the Garmin?
Is it because of the data we have in the Philippine map?
If so, what can be done to fix this issue?

Sometimes, if I need to find a location, I just input the intersecting
streets.
This doesn't work all the time. And, well, for me to know the intersections,
I more or less know the area already.

Just looking for a way to make the maps more efficient.

Thanks!
