Re: [talk-ph] is the text Province of necessary in the is_in:state tags?
FYI, I believe I removed all instance of Province of in the is_in:state tag. The db should be a bit smaller now. Since the major source of the data came from GNS, a few observations I noticed: - there is state/province labeled Kalinga-Apayao. This should be either Kalinga or Apayao only. I simply removed the Province of text. - no GNS place with Zamboanga Sibugay prov/state label. Obviously, since this is a newly created province. As axk commented, many GNS places are mislocated please adjust the position of these nodes as you encounter them. Tutubi, For place= tags, we add the is_in tags. But for POIs, (amenities, shops) I suggest you add address information (addr:housenumber, addr:street, addr:city). Re: [talk-ph] is the text Province of necessary in the is_in:state tags?
Dear ax, Some people find it useful, some don't. For me, the garmin map is more of a debugging tool rather than a navigation gadget (I can find my way even without a GPS given enough travel preparations). Moreover, search in mkgmap doesn't really work well right now. Therefore, you can't use the search by State in most garmin devices with OSM/mkgmap data. I don't have a strong opinion for or against this in the garmin map. If others see this as map junk/clutter we can disable it.
