Re: [Talk-pt] Visiting Portugal

Hi Mathias,
welcome to Portugal!
I already befriended you in OSM and noticed your first edit in Lisboa :-)
I have tried to do some 3d in osm, using the most compatible tags of height
or number of floors. Mostly in Tomar. But i focused in the more urgent need
to get the streets on the map, since Portugal had a late start in OSM
mapping. Now that we have more people mapping maybe is time to get back to
the 3d!
My work in the faculty as focused on 3d survey of buildings and urban areas
with laser scanning and 3d photogrammetry. We have a helium balloon, and
have used remote controled model airplanes and copters.
Our research group is in http://archc3d.fa.utl.pt/archc3d.html (see the
link to the gallery that has some samples of the work).
We also have a 3d fabrication lab in the school with cnc router, laser
cutter and 3d printer, and produce nice stuff with it :-)
I will be glad to show more when you visit!

So Victor did already some 3D modelling with OSM?
Now I'm really curious :) I tried to find some models with f4 maps,
but had no success. Sadly we have no 3D tag related overlay for
 osmatrix :/

Sounds very interesting. I'm not sure how the universities of Lisbon are

Maybe we can enrich some smaller parts of Lisbon with highly detailed

I will be glad to help you you anything you need, and you are invited
to come to my faculty and have a coffee or a beer :-) when you are in
 Portugal
I also belong to a volunteer organization that promotes open source GIS

Thanks for that and I'm pretty sure, that I will take your offer :)
In Germany there is the FOSSGIS e.V. as a local OSGEO chapter. I had a
lose contact with them, as they are also responsible for OSM DE in any
 legal aspect.

As far as I know, in Portugal we really have a diferent relation with
OSM. For instance, I don't think we have any OSM local groups. Most of our

Oh thats interesting to know. Here in Germany, the number of local
meetings (Stammtische) is also decreasing. Maybe this is caused by the
improved coverage or by different reasons.

I agree that we could promote somekind of exchange, maybe to learn how
you guys do it in germany.

Besides that, I think that you can post your questions related to
 tagging in here.

Hmm, I think I will come back to that later, when I'm in Portugal for
real and see what the existing features represent. I hope that I can at
least improve my very close neighbourhood or the campus. Maybe I can do
 some micromapping there :)

During September till December, I will visit Portugal to take part on a

So I like to help contributing during this period, and I like to ask,
if there is a local meeting or usergroup somewhere, where I can post
question? I think most things are different from how we map here in
Germany, as road classification, names, special amenities etc.
Maybe we can have some kind of exchange, so we get a new point of view,
