Re: [Talk-ro] Mapping Party OpenStreetMap in Bucuresti - 17-18 mai 2014

2014-05-22 Thread Jean-Baptiste Holcroft
Hi,

If I understand right, you had problems on how to keep informations to out
it into osm.

Old school way : walking trail.org it is easy to make a quick plan for
printing. Works fine for beginners.

New way for beginner : osm notes, via osm.org interface or with osmand
functionality 'add bug'. You may have to enable osm edition plugin (free).

Geek and advanced users : with osmand track recorder, it record the gpx
trace, in the same time, you can add check point by the almost the same way
of adding an osm bug, but it is record in the gpx file. In josm, a label is
present for each check point. It is what I use when traveling, I'll send an
example with a track embedding almost one hundred comments for osm.

Camera equipped users : you record the tracks with osmand or osmtracker, or
any recording device and you take your pictures. Josm with synchronize it
for you. Tips : as there always is a gap between you GPS tracks time and
your camera, try to set the camera time before starting so it match with
the GPS time and to start with easy pictures just to calibrate the time gap
between your camera and track recorder.

Last advices :
. I never had good results in using the cellphone as camera and track
recorder
. osmand is great to see where you add points instead of being 100%
dependent of GPS.

I hope it may help a little bit. Don't hesitate to ask me questions or tell
me if it wasn't an issue for you.

Sincerely yours

Yeah, that's what I've tried, but using audio notes. I found it
extremely time-consuming to listen to each file again and insert the
information by hand.

Hello,

Why you not use Keypad Mapper 3? I din't know that you had trouble with
osmand for this easy task to be done with keypad mapper .

here is the link
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.enaikoon.android.keypadmapper3

You even don't need to wait to map data to be downloaded. The app
record a gpx track for street and numbers. Numbers will be placed on
right or left side by adding button L or R from the keypad before the
number. The data can be imported into JOSM - both the track and the
numbers.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try it out this weekend!

Yeah, I was in quite a hurry during the party unfortunately - I had to
squeeze lots of things that weekend - and I've probably missed the
best parts. That's precisely why I proposed fixing the weekend for
future parties a month in advance.

I'm glad though that we managed to launch this discussion and take out
some useful points from this weekend - thanks Eddy for pushing for a
report :) and thanks to Jean-Baptiste and Razvan for the pointers.

I'm still hoping that the other participants (I added the emails I had
in the BCC just in case you're not on the list) will take the time to
write their impressions of the mapping party on the list! Remember,
sharing your feedback to the largest audience you can reach is the
best way for the rest of us to learn from your experiences.
