Re: [Talk-transit] Question about train stations
I imagine the consequence of such tagging affects open Railway map? Generally in the us it seems to show such stations as public transit, but maybe this is very country specific, of even site specific? In my opinion it would be required that the station serve a railway line which on could purchase tickets or ride free in order to be tagged as public transport but I even wonder about Stations that once were active Sent from my iPhone > On Oct 27, 2023, at 12:04 PM, Giulio Barba wrote: > > > Hi, I'm writing to get your opinion on train stations. > In particular in reality the train stations used as attractions within the > theme parks. > In your opinion, should these stations be tagged using the "public_transport" > key? > Or given the type of service, is it not public transport? > I also consulted the Italian list and different opinions were given. > > Thank you all. > Giulio Barba > > ___ > Talk-transit mailing list > Talk-transit@openstreetmap.org > https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-transit ___ Talk-transit mailing list Talk-transit@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-transit
Re: [Talk-transit] [Talk-GB] Mapping train services in Great Britain
On 6/1/2021 10:54 AM, Dave F via Talk-transit wrote: What's wrong with consulting a timetable? To consult a timetable you need to know what station to use. This is currently a problem in open railway map. You can search the map based on the name of the train station, but not based on actual towns or other locations. It is even more of an annoying problem in north America where large swaths of the railway network have no passenger service and therefor no stations. If you want to look at railways in Tennessee, for example, the closest you can get is Memphis, which is a long way and a lot of scrolling from Nashville, Johnson City or Bristol (a days drive). [Of course the real problem here is the US passenger rail network, but we aren't going to fix that here.] Christopher ___ Talk-transit mailing list Talk-transit@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-transit
Re: [Talk-transit] Question regarding public_transport=stop_position
Lack of consensus means to tread carefully when deleting other people's work, in my opinion. (I'm not talking about corrections, mind you). In these cases, do not use public_transport=stop_position to avoid duplication of information and confusion.” You can see the wiki page here:https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:public_transport%3Dstop_position The conversations on the wiki discussion page seem to agree that stop_position is not needed where a defined platform exists. I’m mapping railway and light-rail in a metropolitan area. Following the above wiki statement, I have removed stop positions where “defined platforms” are located. My goal is to follow the wiki, to…the…letter. Honestly, I don’t have a preference as to which manner railways are mapped. A thing with a wiki is that it can be edited by anyone... the statement you've quoted was added in November 2019 https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Tag%3Apublic_transport%3Dstop_position=revision=1922774=1805518 and is not part of the original voted-upon PTv2 proposal. Unfortunately by now the various wiki and talk pages are a hash of people declaring what's "necessary" and what's "confusing". Traditionally, deciding on how to create tagging systems was done via new tagging proposals were for, but unfortunately not everyone respects this voted-upon scheme. Again, my only goal is map correctly, To put it bluntly, the OpenStreetMap community does not currently have a consensus on how to map "correctly".
