[Talk-us] Community Mapping in Minnesota Sponsored by NAVTEQ
This is pretty interesting. NAVTEQ is sponsoring a community mapping project in Minnesota communities. It sounds like they're working with the University extension folks to get people to wander around with GPSes and record data for NAVTEQ. Sounds suspiciously familiar... http://sites.google.com/site/mncommunitymapping/ ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us
[Talk-us] US meetups?
Any US OSM meetups other than these three? Any other fixed addresses for local US OSM meetings? http://www.meetup.com/Atlanta-OpenStreetMap/ http://www.meetup.com/OpenStreetMap-Columbus/ http://www.meetup.com/Bay-Area-OpenStreetMappers/ Also, if the organizers of the Bay Area meetup would add OpenStreetMap as one of their groups, some others on the Bay Area OSM waiting list will be able to find them. ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us

There's a slow rumbling of OSM mappers in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul). I'm working on getting them together for a mapping party or meetup. Can I encourage Richard and Ian to get a URL for a calendar and start using it? Giving an emerging community a point of focus might be all it takes to turn it in to a real community. Meetup.com is dead easy and sets up your calendar / email / forum in a snap even if it does cost a few bucks. ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us

Sure, according to their local usage, which will be inconsistent with local usage in other places. What one local thinks is an obvious abbreviation usage because everyone knows it will not be obvious to a map user from elsewhere. How does commercial text-2-speech handle this? Unabbreviated, better-structured data. So, does that mean that street names like 40th Street, for instance should be expanded to Fortieth Street? - Val - ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us
