What I remember is prizes get a little messy to organize if you allow non-US participants to enter. Other than that all you need is commitment from a company. Perhaps an Amtrak gift card! Who has the OSM-US twitter account? Let's post the Rail Crossing Maproulette challenge on twitter looking for support from UP, BNSF, Amtrak, etc. At the very least we might end up with more mappers. I didn't want to make the instructions too convoluted. We can always go back in and manually check for these 'unjoined crossings'. I am just mentioning it here because there's a lot of more experienced mappers here. Most of what I've found are false positives and crossings that need railway=level_crossing. Most that needed the level_crossing are unconnected although not all. A few were missing the street/footway/track and some are now bridges. We still need to do a lot of work on streets in rural areas. I've ended up fixing a few in order to add the crossing. Would be nice if a company were to offer some prize for getting this completed. Union Pacific is pushing for rail crossing safety. We should consider approaching UP and BN for some incentives for getting people to map crossings. Martijn, you have more experience with offering prizes, what is your take? -- @osm_seattle osm_seattle.snowandsnow.us OpenStreetMap: Maps with a human touch ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us

Re: [Talk-us] New MapRoulette challenge - fix railway crossings
Hey all, Just a note that these are only the first 2 tasks of what should be a ~75k task challenge altogether. So depending on how the FRA sorted the data, it may expose regional gaps for that reason. Also, please even if you see the crossing rendered, do go in and check, because I have seen more than once that the crossing node is not a shared node between way and rail. (Hint, use 'j' to join node to way and 'm' to merge nodes that are (almost) on top of each other.) Thanks again all for participating! Almost 2500 done already. I think it's a fun challenge too. The stats for the fix railway challenge seem to confirm this: 75% are skipped or have been previously completed. This is a fun and easy challenge. If you have a few minutes to kill, this is the challenge. Some observations: I've left JOSM open since I started. Two sections of the country seem to be missing, the Southwest and Southeast. There are a few in California and Arizona/NM but nothing so far, as far as I can see, in Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Tenn, the Virginias, or the Carolina's. It would be nice if the render could add the X to all nearby tracks, at least until we complete this challenge. I check if not all of the tracks are rendered with an X Some times they are missing other times they are mapped.
