What's up with OpenStreetMap's wiki? I've noticed in the last couple of days
that "more complex" wiki pages often generate Lua errors where they never have
before (and nothing has changed in the content), in particular
Lua internal error: the interpreter has terminated with signal "24"
Try, for example, https://wiki.osm.org/wiki/California/Railroads where it gets
about halfway through the page plenty fine, but somewhere around "Railtrails"
it starts spitting up "red text" Lua errors for simple tasks like a
BrowseRelation entry. And yes, it's OK if the answer is "that wiki page is
simply too large, break it up" as there is a proposal in the wiki itself to do
just that.
My best guess is an overloaded wiki server. As it isn't clear from munin
(OSM's statistics / platform status) which server for wiki might be overloaded,
I looked at https://wiki.osm.org/wiki/Platform_Status and discovered it is
stormfly-01.openstreetmap.org hosted at Oregon State University's Open Source
Laboratory (thank you for hosting, OSU!).
However, stats are reporting "green" although the Notes column remarks that the
job queue counter continues growing. It seems a "beefy enough" server (HP
ProLiant DL360 G6, 2 x 6 cores of Xeon X5660s at 2.80 GHz, 72 GB RAM...) but
maybe we're simply over-stressing it. Yes, I do write a lot of wiki, but I'm
fairly certain it isn't me!
Apologies if this should be directly addressed to our OSM Operations Team, I
don't really know how to do that (and it isn't clear, so perhaps we want a
"more clear" way to report minor errors like this).
