[Talk-us] Shield rendering and detours; tagging nicknames?
OK, wonder if we can get orange detour banners for routes as well? Example relations can be found in the downtown Tulsa area, which has an interstate (244), two US routes (64, 75) and an Oklahoma state highway (51) detoured through the end of next year. Also, thanks to the serious overload on route multiplexing, exacerbated by the construction, this would be a good area to test route shield hell. I've also finally gotten around to adding relations for the LL Tisdale Parkway ( http://www.alpsroads.net/roads/ok/cool_j/) and the Gilcrease Expressway ( http://www.aaroads.com/shields/show.php?image=OK19720071) to test out city route shields. Also, what would be an appropriate tag for a completely informal name for something that is getting uptake by way of traffic reports? Tulsa's Inner Dispersal Loop has been called the "Inner Detour Loop" by some reporters. ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us

Nah, the best place to test route shield hell is in GA. :) hehe. http://elrond.aperiodic.net/shields/?zoom=14&lat=30.85477&lon=-82.01919&layers=B Still, I think detour routes might be a good idea, but only if somebody is willing to keep track of the projects and fix everything once the construction is finished. -James Date: Sat, 13 Jul 2013 18:52:00 -0500 From: ba...@ursamundi.org To: talk-us@openstreetmap.org Subject: [Talk-us] Shield rendering and detours; tagging nicknames? I agree. I've only been handling construction I know I can keep up with myself. Re: [Talk-us] Shield rendering and detours; tagging nicknames?
It helps that these are actually signposted as black-on-orange "DETOUR" bannered routes. The severely multiplexed and complicated situation this creates causes passengers in my car to giggle when the Garmin announces that you should make a movement following the detour routes, since it'll say things like "Exit left to..." then rattle off all the refs and detour refs, then the highway name. Even with speed limits reduced to 30-45 MPH on the freeway, it still takes just long enough that it's time to announce the next turn as soon as it finishes rattling off one. But it's better than watching folks who don't have OpenStreetMap on their GPS...since it won't be aware that all traffic is being squeezed through on what is normally the westbound 244/southbound 75 span. Their nav trying to reconcile driving the "wrong" way on the freeway is bound to cause navrage with the folks who don't know about OSM on Garmin...
