Re: [Talk-us] US local chapter

2012-08-08 Thread Martijn van Exel
Hi,

Meetings have been irregular since May. We have one on the agenda for
tomorrow 5PM pacific. Reminds me that I need to update the wiki.
Next board election will likely be at SOTM US, we will discuss this tomorrow.

I will share some more thoughts on how it's going sometime soon.

[Talk-us] US local chapter

2012-08-08 Thread Richard Weait
talk has started on the osmf list about the upcoming OpenStreetMap
Foundation board election, which reminded me of the US local chapter.

I had a quick look at recent US local chapter minutes [1] and see
nothing since April 2012. Are there some additional minutes to be
posted? It's also unclear to me which minute item tasks have been
assigned to which people, and which tasks are new assignments, versus
updates versus items completed.

And I'd love to hear from the local chapter board members, elected
last year, regarding: their thoughts on their year on the board so
far, their expectations leading up to next year, their observations
about serving the US local chapter and community, how their plans from
before the election align with their accomplishments so far.

And it would be good to know the details of the next US local chapter
board election.

Best regards,
Richard

The outgoing board still owes the community an annual meeting and when we
pulled together the dates for the election we thought the meeting could be
online (maybe a fancy Google+ hangout? a conference call? IRC?) sometime
next week. The agenda Thea suggested was:

Topics at AGM: (preliminary)
- Overall Report: Kate
- Treasurer Report: Thea - will include swag and non hardware assets
description
- Membership Report: Richard and Steven
- Hardware Report: Ian
- New board member introductions
- Other business dictated in bylaws

I'm not saying we shouldn't meet tomorrow, but we might want to give more
time for the rest of the members to get a chance to participate.

another early agenda item is to figure out roles on the new board. in the

it has been easy and non-controversial, but this board is 80% new and will
clearly be establishing its own dynamic.

Another idea I'd love discuss are extracts designed to assess the quality of
OSM data on a county by county basis. I think this can be done in an automated
fashion borrowing some of the ideas introduced by Geofabrik's Inspector,
ultimately resulting in a regularly-produced summary of data quality for each
of the 3000+ counties in the US.

[Talk-us] US Local Chapter Temporary Board Update

2010-03-05 Thread Kate Chapman
Hi U.S. Mappers,

Since the election of the temporary OSM U.S. Chapter board we have
chosen positions, which are as follows:

President: Kate Chapman
Vice President: Serge Wroclawski
Secretary: Rich Welty
Treasurer: Thea Clay
Member At Large: Steven Johnson

The regularly scheduled U.S. Chapter call will take place at 8pm EST
this Thursday. You will find the call in details here:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Foundation/Local_Chapters/United_States

Since the next couple months will be primarily spent organizing the
incorporation paper work and other logistics, we feel there is no
longer a need to hold weekly chapter meetings. What is your (the U.S.
Community) preference on holding future US Chapter chapter calls? And
are there any objections to holding the calls twice a month?

The US SOTM calls will continue to occur every Thursday at 8:30 PM
EST. You can find the call in information here:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/WikiProject_United_States/US_SOTM

There is now a page in the wiki for brainstorming ideas for the U.S.
focused efforts
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/WikiProject_United_States/Ideas.
The main goal of the U.S. Chapter isn't to incorporate it is to make a
great map. The idea behind brainstorming is to see if there are ideas
people have not related to the incorporation that they'd like to start
working on (i.e. training/outreach/media).
