[Talk-us] Election Statement
First, I think the current board is doing a great job. I think you should reelect them. I became aware of OSM at MUM/osg'05. Last year I started to contribute by helping with the Atlanta mapping parties and getting staff from local govts to show up. That included my own staff from Fulton County. Since then I have been slowly working to improve tools to help integrate govt data and assist govt users get an understanding of how and why to contribute. I have been able to directly assist in obtaining govt data for others to work with and import. I have in my role as a member of the GIS community worked to improve understanding and acceptance of OSM. If elected / if not elected, either way I will contribute to OSM by spreading the message, improving tools, coordinating with the GIS community and govt sectors, and assist in encouraging projects to improve the whole. -- Carl Anderson ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us

Hello all, I'm Lisa Jackson from Atlanta, Georgia. I first learned about OSM through Danielle Ayan when Thea first came to town, and started meeting with the Georgia URISA group. I've worked on some of the local data conversion projects with the shp-to-osm script that Carl updated. I was a much more active mapper last year, and added in most of the Georgia Tech campus, but then I got distracted by other obligations. Thea suggested that I run for the board, but frankly--since all five existing board members are running, and have done such a great job--I don't expect to be voted in. ...I do want to contribute, and--with the support of the group--plan to become more involved in the following ways: Create custom styles and slippy maps for schools (k-12 and higher ed), small businesses, and/or maybe public events. Compile a benefits list, and information packet for these groups and, in particular, for schools groups applying for grants. Thanks! i originally brought up statements because i intend to write something about imports, and i realized it would be easy to interpret as electioneering, so it made sense to just suggest that candidates say something and be done with it. i became involved in OSM through Russ Nelson. i have known Russ for many years as we both are long time participants in the anti-spam community. when Russ announced he was moving on to become a community ambassador for Cloudmade, i looked at the project and concluded that it was pretty cool. that was perhaps 18 months ago, and it's still pretty cool. i have a particular interest in how this community evolves to meet external and internal forces. i think that this is a very interesting time for OSM in the US, as Government organizations try to figure out how it fits, as businesses like Mapquest work out its impact on their business models, and as the individual contributors try to sort out their feelings about the the effect of these new players on the project. i found SOTM-US to be a very energizing experience and look forward to continuing to support OSM US, however the election turns out. thanks, richard ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us
