Re: [Talk-us] Whole-US Garmin Map update - 2013-08-22
Hi Martin, That was my conclusion as well. Figured it didn't hurt to ask. Does it get placed in the same directory as the IMG file on the SD card? Thanks again! Best regards, Fred Hillhouse From: Martin Koppenhoefer [mailto:dieterdre...@gmail.com] 2013/9/4 F Hillhouse Jr f.hillhouse...@gmail.com I selected the Mapnik TYP file. Is this file necessary? this is a file that specifies how the things are displayed, if you don't use it you will get the standard garmin rendering, but as the available line types and icons are limited, this could in some cases lead to confusion (if object or line types were abused in order to display different information garmin hadn't in mind, it will be misleading). I'd suggest to use the TYP files. cheers, Martin ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us

Hi Dave, One last question, I think. I also went to the Lambertus site and requested a IMG file by picking the areas of interest. I figured it would be useful to know as well. I selected the Mapnik TYP file. Is this file necessary? If yes, I assume it would go into the same directory on the SD card. Hopefully I will make it out today and pick up some SD cards. Thank you for your time and efforts! Hi Dave, I just bought a Garmin GPSMAP 62s and have started to look more closely at the files on your page. With the IMG file, do I just copy the image to the SD card or use something like Win32DiskImager? The reason I ask, I use Win32DiskImager when writing the Raspberry Pi image to the SD Card. Thanks! However, please do not send me private mail. The odds are, someone else will have the same questions, and by asking on the talk-us@ list, others can benefit. I wrote scripts to joined them myself to lessen the impact of doing a large join on Lambertus's server. I've also cut them in large longitude swaths that should fit conveniently on removable media. http://daveh.dev.openstreetmap.org/garmin/Lambertus/2013-08-22 Can or should I seed the torrents? Yes!! If you use the .torrent files, please seed. That web server is in the UK, and it helps to have some peers on this side of the Atlantic. Why is my map missing small rectangular areas? There have been some missing tiles from Lambertus's map (the red rectangles), I don't see any at the moment, so you may want to update if you had issues with the last set. Why can I not copy the large files to my new SD card? If you buy a new card (especially SDHC), some are FAT16 from the factory. I had to reformat it to let me create a 2GB file. Does your map cover Mexico/Canada? Yes!! I have, for the purposes of this map, annexed Ontario in to the USA. Some areas of North America that are close to the US also just happen to get pulled in to these maps. This might not happen forever, and if you would like your non-US area to get included, let me know. -- Dave ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us
