[Tango-A] NA-E: Ney Melo and Jennifer Bratt Teach in Gainesville, October 30-November 01, 2009

2009-10-09 Thread David Chayes
A rare opportunity for North Florida and the South Eastern United States!

For details, please refer to:

http://www.tangoyte.com/Ney_and_Jennifer_Workshops_2009.xhtml

Ney and Jennifer's dancing is the closest thing--outside of
Argentina--to that truest, most musical style of tango, the "Villa
Urquiza" stlye (made famous by Geraldine and Javier...)

The embodiment of this special concept of elegance,  they are also
fantastic social dancing teachers.

[Tango-A] NA-E: Tango de los Muertos...Coming Soon!

2009-10-09 Thread Tova Moreno
Tango de los Muertos is fast approaching...and we're getting so excited about
it!

You have just over 24 hours to pre-register for workshops, if you haven’t done
so already! Workshop pre-registration closes tomorrow, Saturday October 10th.
Pre-registration for milongas only will continue until October 22nd. Register
here: http://www.tangodelosmuertos.com/register.html

It will be possible to register at the door for any open workshops and
milongas. However, all at-the-door registrants for both Intermediate and
Advanced workshops must register with a partner in order to help keep the
workshops balanced.

Lodging
The Hyatt Place hotel is now completely sold out for Friday and Saturday. We’ve
arranged a special festival rate at two other hotels that are just a short
drive away, but call soon if you’d like to book a room! Not only are these
special rates only available until October 16th, they’re also subject to
availability. Check out the Lodging page for more information:
http://www.tangodelosmuertos.com/lodging.html

Limited housing is also available with local tango dancers. Please note,
though, that if you stay with a local we hope that you can rent a car! Getting
to the festival venue is difficult without one, since public transportation is
limited and stops running from about midnight to 6am. Go to the Forum page for
information on requesting local housing:
http://www.tangodelosmuertos.com/forum.html

Folkloric and Beginning Tango Workshops Added
The MIT Tango Club and Springstep are hosting workshops during TdlM to
supplement the workshops offered by Tango de los Muertos. These workshops are
separate events with their own pricing and registration and are not combinable
with Festival Passes. The MIT Tango Club will host a Beginning Intensive on
Saturday and Sunday with instructors Mitra Martin and Stefan Fabry from Los
Angeles and Rebecca Rorick Smith and Eric Lindgren from Portland, Oregon. If
you have friends in the Boston area who've been wanting to start tango, this
will be a great time to start! Go here to find out more
. Springstep will host two
Argentine folkloric workshops, Malambo and Chacarera, with Pampa Cortes of
Forever Tango before TdlM opening milonga on Thursday. More information,
including registration, can be found on the Springstep website
.

And...The Game
We are planning something special, “The Game!” that will span the entire
festival. Details will NOT follow! All you need to do is show up and try to
figure out what the Halloween is going on! Is it a scavenger hunt?...a
mystery?...a riddle?...a trick or a treat? Where and when do you start and
where and when does it end? (Oh Yes, we do hope these questions will keep you
up at night!)

We hope to see you soon! :)

Abrazos,
Tova & Carlos

Elizabeth Olivera has been dancing and teaching tango since 2000 in her
hometown of Buenos Aires and around the world. She has danced in numerous shows
and exhibitions in Argentina, including "Madero Tango" in Puerto Madero, "Bar
Sur" in San Telmo, "Taconeando" and "La Ventana" at the famous Casa de Tango.
Elizabeth is the founding partner, artistic director and choreographer of the
E.O.P. Tango Company, based in Buenos Aires. She is also the co-director and
instructor of the Argentine tango school, 2 Para el Tango, at which some of the
best known dancers and teachers in tango hold classes. For four years she
served as an assistant teacher at the International Tango Congress (CITA) in
Buenos Aires. >From the many great Argentinean teachers with whom she has
formally studied, Elizabeth has developed a teaching style that focuses on
creating an understanding of the aesthetics, body dynamics and discipline
that support the dancing of Tango.

Mariano Gauna began his career in dance as a child, studying Argentine folk
dance, modern dance, and specially tango. Since 1996, he has performed with
several dance companies and danced in the most popular tango houses and shows
in Buenos Aires. Mariano also has toured with several tango shows in Europe,
Asia and Latin America. His tango dancing style emphasizes in a strong
technique, a firm and clear embrace, elegance and sensuality, without losing
the essence of the expression of the Tango.
