Wish or question

2000-03-23 Thread István Szendrő

Hello All,

For security reasons I now export message files to MSG files on a
regular basis.
The Bat! assigns sequentially numbered names to the exported messages
(to make sure I don't have a clue what it is until I open it?)

Is there a way (suitable for automated execution) to assign
*meaningful* names? Like "sender_subject.msg"?

If there isn't, I think there should be.

The Bat! - bug report - certain HTML attachements don't show any more

2000-03-23 Thread Lionel Elie Mamane

Hello The Bat! developers,

  I'm using The Bat! Version 1.42 Beta/6
under Windows NT 4.0 Build 1381 Service Pack 6
and would like to report a bug

  The bug description:
I installed beta 6, all got well for the whole day. Now, I go to
some big folders (daily newsletters I've been receiving for some
years, in HTML format), and the HTML message doesn't show any
more! The strangest is the same message showed perfectly a few
hours ago with the same 1.42 Beta/6

I really just let it open (minimized) for some hours, and now they
show not exactly all blank, but without any text. If there is a
table structure with different color backgrounds, the structure
with all the backgrounds shows, but not the actual text. I can
provide examples and screenshots if you wish so.

Exiting and restarting The Bat! doesn't solve the problem

Regards,
  Lionel Elie Mamane

If I remember you have to go into the volume controls and in there
under advanced etc you can select what sound card is used. Or via
control panel multimedia.

Whatever is set is whatever is used and windows hasnt got a clue what
a default soundcard is..

The Bat! - bug report: Search with regexp returns msgs it shouldn't

It finds the 4 msgs it should, but also 4 others. E.g. (full headers

The Bat! - bug report // sound problem

2000-03-23 Thread Roel

Hello The Bat! developers,

  I'm using The Bat! Version 1.42 Beta/6
  Serial Number UNREG / CD5BF9353B3B7091
  under Windows 98 4.10 Build A
and would like to report a bug

  The bug description:

if you have multiple soundcards, TB! can only use 1 sound-card to
play a sound when mail arrives...
it doesn't use the default windows-soundcard if that is changed to
the other card...

  Steps to reproduce the bug:

- install 2 soundcards :-)
- install TB! & set sound
- change default card in the control-panel\multimedia properties
to the second soundcard & disable wav-output on the first

- TB! still uses the first card... & thus plays no sound...

This has happened to me for a long time, too.

It happens much more often with my TBUDL and TBBETA folders (which I
have threaded by References and sorted by Received Time) than with my
other folders (which I have threaded by Subject and sorted by Received
Time). I'm not sure if it is the threading option itself that
contributes to the problem; I suspect it involves what TB does to refresh
the message list pane or to take you to the next message after a
message is deleted.

Ah, the Bat! doesn't like it when you read about other mailers. :)

If the message bases aren't too big you might ask Stef/Max if you could
mail them to Stef/Max.

SOT: Suggested feature

2000-03-23 Thread Graham Foster

Hello

Having just spent 2 days in a corporate meeting (yawn) discussing the
impact of digital signatures on e-commerce etc, I thought I'd raise a
few ideas:

-) With digital signatures (S/MIME and x509.3 certificates) people and
systems can be pretty sure that you are who you say you are. Therefore
information being transferred by e-mail can be checked rather better.
These certificates are to be held in centralised Corporate directories
(LDAP enabled) - Will TB! be able to use this technology - i.e.
automatically get someones public key from a corporate LDAP server?

-) Classification of e-mails: 2 e-mail headers that are thought
necessary are

--) 'Sensitivity' (e.g. Public, Company confidential,Restricted access
and 'Top secret'). 'Top secret' information will never be e-mailed
anywhere - and will be blocked by the gateways /servers. Restricted
and above will always be encrypted (automatically)

--) Retention (Official, administrative etc) This enables automated
e-mail retention based on content rather than age of message. Again -
I don't believe that TB! can handle these either (Outlook/Exchange can
at least handle the sensitivity flags)

Now our organisation is huge and not bleeding edge - so if we are
putting infrastructure in place to do these things - I'm sure that
others are too. Should TB! include this functionality - and if so -
how could it be 'customised' to a corporation requirements?

Just a discussion point for version 2

regards,
 Graham

I moved some messages from one folder to another and back and I clicked
to my RITLABS folder. I have 500 messages in it, but TB didn't displayed me
them! No filters selected (I hit Esc many times) and after restart TB is
folder OK. I can't reproduce it better, but this is a bug :-(
I viewed this problem only on beta/6.

Is possible to display "amout of processed messages of total amount of
