No problem here with 34 and XP.

Confirmed .. but, what's a boy to do? There's no text part to this
message. TB has to guess which of the two attachments is the message.
Is it the first - an attachment of type text/html? Or is it the second
- - a text/plain? TB's guessing wrong and using the text/plain version.

I have to say that TB should really use the first file instead of the
second, whatever the type, but the sender has made it a tough choice!

I've come across this problem before; unfortunately, it's difficult to
stop as, if people want to put up details of every last beta, they'll
find a way of doing it (Opera, at the moment, is in the same position,
with the new betas announced on a public newsgroup, opera.beta, and
that information being passed on elsewhere).

I suppose a solution _might_ be to password-protect the ftp directory
but not change the password every time there's a new beta (otherwise
it's more trouble than it's worth); people might take that as a hint
that the betas are not to be made generally available.

> Question is - how they (betanews) know about new betas?

They subscribe to this list. All sorts of lurkers hide in the woodwork
of mailing lists ...

SOT: Suggestion to developers

2002-02-01 Thread Konstantin Volenbovsky

Hi, all and especially Ritlabs!
Not so long ago I have found an interview with developers on
www.silverstones.com It is dated 10/01/2000 and the main issue was the
plans of v2. Maybe developers and Marck Pearlstone would find the time
(and place) and clear out the questions of v2, v1.54, the release of
these versions, the next beta-series, AV plugin and other hot topics.
I think that a virtual meeting,let's say, one in a year is a great idea!

Access violation error

2002-02-01 Thread Costas Papadopoulos

I'm using The Bat! Version 1.54 Beta/34 Serial Number 7DDCF68E under
Windows 98 4.10 Build 67766446 A and would like to report a bug

  The bug description:

  Access violation error.

  Steps to reproduce the bug:

   When viewing HTML formatted messages in the previewer, tabbing out
   of the preview pane by pressing Ctrl-Tab and then Tab several times
   repeatedly gave me an error message "Access violation at address
   00403DC1 in module 'THEBAT.EXE'. Read of address 6E0057CE". This
   happens after persistent (perhaps foolishly so) tabbing but, there
   you have it.

But the first one is text/html and nothing more, the second one is
labelled as "Content-Disposition: attachment". So I think the first
one should be chosen.

I think that The Bat shouldn't use the RC file, because it's clearly
marked as attachment:

.rc = Resource Script. It's something standard with Windows programs -
the resources usually contain all the menus, dialog boxes, icons, etc.
you see in programs (it's a little program language dependant, for
example in C almost everything is in resources, while in VB only the
program's icon is stored there).

To reply to the correct text in TB, you have to select it and press
F4...

I promise you I had tried it before. But I changed the connection type
to regular and use POP details for authentication and it worked. Then
I switched back to the correct user & pass and I could send a message.
Now I am using it with a secure connection too.
Hence, in short, it is a bug in The Bat!. But I couldn't find the way
it exactly behaves. I say this because after having one account
working, I tried from the other I use with the same SMTP server, and
which already had the correct authentication info... result, it
failed. I then put it all to regular and 'use settings of Mail
Retrieval'... it worked; everything back to TLS and specific settings,
it still worked.

There is a bug somewhere there, not detecting changes to MD5's flag
until you move to POP settings and go forth back to specific details,
or something like that.

I hope you could understand what I tried to say. Anyhow, thanks for
your help, after all I got it working now :)

Great, thanks :-)

Have someone started to play with the code? It seams that the
"CheckFile" function does not work. I have changed the code to:

---
function FileChecking: Integer; stdcall;
begin
  Result := AVC_OK;
end;

function StreamChecking: Integer; stdcall;
begin
  Result := AVC_NotSupported;
end;

function CheckFile(AFileName: PChar; Msg: PChar): Integer; stdcall;
begin
  StrCopy(Msg, 'Test');
  Result := AVC_VirusFound;
end;
---

But if i check an folder, TB! does not report the "virus".

And does someone know how to enable the "Configure" button. The
"Setup" function will never be called.

BTW: It seams that the "MakeStr" function forget the terminating zero
on the buffer size Checking. And the line "{$R *.res}" could be
removed.

cu,
 Dirk
