2004-09-20 Thread Keith Russell
Hi, Oliver.
Olivier Mascia wrote:

Peter recently started a thread on this topic at:

[snip]
I found your discussion of POP3/IMAP clients highly interesting
and educational, and your suggestion of separating POP3 and IMAP
clients to be quite thought provoking. I'm surprised that it
hasn't generated more discussion here.

In between, I now daily use TB 3.0 for IMAP. But I still need to daily
use other clients for some tasks.
I am also using multiple clients. However, in my case, usage is
reversed. I use mostly other clients, and use TB! only
occasionally. There are just too many IMAP features still
missing, and that, combined with the performance issues I'm
having, makes it too time consuming and frustrating to use on a
regular basis.

The only fear I have is that the
remaining things to add or correct might be too cumbersome to
implement in an email client that has to do POP too. The weakiest move
of Mulberry was when they decided to add POP support to it. The number
of deficiencies sky rocketed at that time.
This, too, I find very interesting. I didn't start using Mulberry
till recently, so I wasn't aware of this.

Thanks for a very stimulating post!

Re: IMAP Bugs: 3.x (compiling a list)

2004-09-20 Thread Keith Russell
One thing that I do notice is that TB! is constantly updating the
Unread and Total numbers in my folder list. I do have a lot of
messages (over 63,000) and a lot of folders, but I don't
understand why the numbers would even need to be updated when all
my folders are set to "Don't synchronize".

I just experienced a specific example of what I'm talking about:
While viewing my Inbox, I sent myself a message. I then switched
to my Spam folder. I saw a list of headers displayed, with the
count showing one new message. However, no new header was
displayed, and the status message didn't change over a period of
a couple of minutes.

I then checked my messages in another account, and came back to
the Spam folder in my main account. This time, NO headers were
displayed, and 15 minutes later, they still are not, and the
status bar still says, "9/20/2004, 10:22:13: SEND connection
finished - 1 messages sent".

TB! clearly hasn't frozen up, because the counts are still
changing, but I have no way to check my Spam folder.

See what I mean?

There might be more, I've just checked "my" bugs so far.

In addition, the following four was reported as fixed in the BT
without appearing in your list:

https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=2479

So, what's wrong?

I'll check out the beta later, have to leave now.

Sorry for the double posts, I should have checked more thoroughly from
the beginning:

All bugs reported as solved in .15 appears in the list for .16 as
well. Beside them, there are a few not appearing in the list for .15:

[-] Directory name for special folders could have been renamed from
special name (e.g. $JUNK$) to display name (e.g. "Junk Mail")
[-] (#0002580) OpenPGP Key Manager menu item was not implemented for

[-] (#0003665) HTML editor: Strings "Style", "Tiles" and "Fixed" in
Document background dialog can't be translated
[-] (#0002904) Access Violation Error displaying large text messages
using RTV

And, as I said, there are bugs fixed but not reported in the list
presented by Max as well.

What about saving bandwidth by just copying the text instead of
posting screenshots? Try ctrl-c next time. Not only does it save
bandwidth, it also makes it easier to reuse the information for
reports in the BT by copy/pasting it.

Just a suggestion, I am not trying to moderate the list. And, as the
moderators say: "This xxx interjection is a note to all
readers and not just to the person being replied to, even if their
