Are you by any chance using Zone Alarm? I haven't used it in many years
but I seem to remember ZA would change some file extensions to .zXX. >

I cases where Zone Alarm Pro considers attachments as potentially dangerous the
extension when receiving mails with The Bat! is .zma

You have to download it and expressedly order that to be opened or executed.

ZAP warns - and asks what should happen with the attachment.

No, I am not using any personal firewall at all.

I feared that! :-/

This is a very good question ...

"*.*" + [Enter] => The whole content of the folder is shown, but the
file extension in the drop down list at the bottom does not change.

"*.jpg" (or any other extension) + [Enter] => All the specified files
in the regarding folder are shown *and* the file extension in the drop
down list is set accordingly.

After closing and re-opening the dialog the extension is "*.z07"
again.

I testet the behavior of the native Windows file open dialog with
StarOffice (OpenOffice.org) without any problems ...

Hello, Peter!

> can you please explain, what you are talking about?

I am talking about the strange behavior of the "Attach a file" dialog.

> Which "default file extension"? And where are you "changing" it?
> I guess I have no clue about your problem ...

Let's say you want to attach a PNG-file from a folder which only
contains files with the extension PNG.

How it should be: If you click the "Attach a file" icon and open the
regarding folder, you get this [1].

How it looks like on my PC: see [2]

After changing the file extension in this dialog from "*.z07" to the
"correct" value "*.*" I get this [3].

So, my problem is that by default the file extension is *not* set to
"*.*", but to "*.z07". And even files with this extension are *not*
shown. And manually changing the extension to any other value has *no*
effect.

Do you now have a clue about my problem? ;-)

Update: On my notebook the extension is set to "*.z" instead of "*.*",
but has the same behavior.

Can nobody confirm this strange and annoying bug?

Hello, folks!

I have some problems with the "Attach a file" dialog:

The default file extension is set to "*.z07" and changing to other
extensions does not have any effect (e.g. "*.*").

Any confirmations?

Cheers!
