Re: [4.0.34.11] Strange mail ticker behavior

2008-09-29 Thread Mackley
Apparently fixed in 4.0.34.12 but...

...the ticker was showing for an unread message. I market it read with
a keyboard shortcut and the ticker still displayed it !
The trick of compress the folder made it disappear.
I've tried to do that again with the same folder but i can't repeat it :-/

Using OTFE (work) completed the conversion with no errors. The ex_log.txt
remained untouched. However all folders appeared empty and I had to rollback.

Using the non-OTFE version (home) the conversion was successful and works like
charm.

My German is not so good ... darn, I missed it!. OK, I found it, but
too expensive from USA LOL. Anyway, this is a very cool little program
and I will try it out. I have had TB backup fail before using OTFE and

Changed threading behavior in 4.0.34.11

2008-09-28 Thread Rick
I am resending this as it is a serious aggravation and change in
behavior that happened for the first time in this release (.11)
Should I open a bug report?

Formerly a thread from an earlier time would receive a new message and
move to the top of the message list. The thread would stay there even
if I deleted the new message

Now, if you delete the new message it jumps back to it's former place
in the message list.

I am threading by references, expanding all threads, grouping by date, and "new
thread sorting". This is the way it was before and after upgrading to .11 -
nothing else changed

Confirm anyone?

2008-09-28 Thread MAU
Hello Ian,

> There is of course one "quirk". You only get asked if you want to send
> a receipt WHEN YOU LEAVE THE MESSAGE.

The 'Reading Confirmation Receipt' is sent (or queued to Outbox) when
the message is 'marked as READ'.

Now, when is a message marked as Read? That depends on a couple of
configuration options:

1.- In Account->Properties->Options
- Mark the message as read when it is being read for X Secs
- Mark the message as read only when it is open in a separate window

2.- In Options/Preferences/Message List
- Go to the next unread message with the SmartSpace reading
  - Mark the current message as read when navigating away from it

In my case I have none of the four options ticked because I want to
decide when I have read each message. So, I use the shortcut 'Ctrl+M'
(actually 'Space', which I have configured in Customiser).

My experience:
Everytime I get a new beta here, I perform two backups: with internal
tool and with TBManager
http://www.freeware-archiv.de/TBManager-eMail.htm
Then I replace the .exe file.

Discussion on how to upgrade successfully to the new version (was: Re: 4.0.34.11)

2008-09-27 Thread mse
Hello all,

some experiences regarding upgrade to .11:

1)
As Marek wrote on Friday evening, creating a backup on .7, exchanging
thebat.exe to .11 and restoring the previously created backup did not
work. I checked that and I can confirm, that performing these
operations only results in empty message bases, i.e. The Bat shows the
folders but they don't contain any messages.

2)
I also tried exchanging thebat.exe as I usually do and restarting The
Bat afterwards. All the folders were still present, and every message
was still there. A new message index in MESSAGES.TBN was created on
startup. When this file was deleted, it was recreated on startup
again. When MESSAGES.TBI was deleted it had no effect. So apparently,
simply exchanging thebat.exe is the best way to upgrade to the new
version.

Marek, is there a way you especially suggest?
Those who upgraded successfully, how did you do it?
Those who couldn't upgrade, what did you try?

Best regards,
mse

Converted message base
Got an external exception:

---
The Bat!
---
External exception 8003.
---
OK
---

And the log with the fancy name gave a multitude of lines like this

v4.0.34.11 BASILISK/Roelof 26-9-2008 18:58:52 ProcessFolders:1
EExternalException External exception 8003

Resulted in all folders visible but none with messages.
The mail directory still has the same size (I didn't check individual
files) so that suggests that the data still are present, but as I'm
using OTFE I won't try to read them.

Closing and starting TB again gives me the same errors, but it didn't
ask whether I wanted to convert the message base.

Reverted to 4.0.34.7
