one more thing. MS Malware Romover got updated yesterday. the KB article says it could hang in some cases. it does not explicitly say what happens when/if some file was being analyzed at that time. that might be your case.

MSI 3.1 seems to be in heavy development and its KB seems to be quite fluid these times. :(

apart from them, you can at least doublecheck the digital signature of the downloaded file. is it okay?

make sure your MSI engine is up-to-date,
copy the MSI file to a local drive that is not a SUBSTed one,
then try again.

Except that Thomas opens the MSI install the same way as me (with the

Just as a matter of interest, in your main TB! Folder where the

I've never seen that happen here. Otherwise, as you say in your other

When you say "the first start up after install", do you mean when the

Icons and MSI installation

2006-01-16 Thread Richard Wakeford
Hello,

I've never mentioned this before as it's so trivial. I have my own Icon
set and, every time I do an MSI install, I have to restart The Bat!
twice as the first start up after the install brings up the standard
icons. I close down, restart straight away and there are my own icons.

As I said, nothing drastic but I was wondering if anyone else is having
the same problem as I know at least one other TB! user is using my icon
set?

Sometimes it I think it would be a good thing to give also a

Ok - I made a very fresh "Plain" installation (before I cleared all

As far as I see it worked perfectly... The only thing which I didn't

Hi Stuart,
do you try to update?
It seems that the Windows Installer tries to call the installed Home
Edition as it needs the installation database for something.
As the installation file for the Home Edition is no longer where it was
as you installed it, you get the error.

MSI installs may not start from SUBST'ed or virtual or removable drives, it's
better to copy them to the local disk.

Another good idea may be to upgrade Windows Installer Service to version 3.0.
This version is included with XP SP2. Otherwise, you can download the "Windows

At least no trouble with installation.

MSI shows wrong sizes (The Bat! Core files: 4k; Multilingual UI

only one entry, so this seems to work as well.

Well, that won't happen anymore I guess... But here the WI mechanism is
quite nice. If you update first all files are copied and if there are files
deleted from the installation, these are deleted from the disk.

So a minimum of file operations is needed.

Surely, didn't know you are comfortable enough in the registry to find
your way around and rename entries. Instead of renaming you could as
easily and with adverse effects have hit .

BTW, read that tip a few weeks ago, if you want to get rid of all the
MS patch entries in the uninstaller window, you can delete the
packages and then try to uninstall them. Windows can't find the
necessary info and will ask you to delete the entry itself. This
should also work, I think, if you move uninstall info somewhere else.

Caveat: Don't try this at home, kids! And don't hold me responsible if
your system doesn't do what it should afterwards.

Know what you mean, had the same decision dilemma. that's why I asked
for a more informative entry by RITLabs.

In my set-up the first TB entry in the software uninstall window was
the old one, as was reflected in RegCleaner. So, it was the first
entry I chose.

The worst thing that could happen to you is that you clear the wrong
one and have to find the uninstaller info manually. I am not sure but
think a re-run of the installer with the option Repair chosen should
bring back the correct entry. Be sure to delete the remaining, wrong
entry before the re-run.

Simply wrong as can be seen from the messages Maxim wrote about this

Sorry, but (and I usually am not a big fan of MS' software) I've yet

MSI Installation

2004-06-11 Thread Maxim Masiutin
Hello Peter,

>>MM>We've compiled an MSI Installation (experimental), it is
>>MM> available in the Beta Download Area.

>>It seems to work ok here, but as I'm a single user on a single
>>computer, the advantages don't apply to me, or do they?

The advantage is that the MSI file is digitally signed and you can verify the
signature before installing the program to ensure that the contents haven't been
infected in transit by a virus or a mailicious user.

Another andantage is that MSI uninstalls absolutely everything it has installed. So
"The Bat!" folder under the "Program Files" will be accurately cleaned after the
uninstallation.

We have also implemented a smarter algorithm to clean the Working Directory.
Previously, the uninstaller did merely delete the Working Directory with all its
subdirectories. If the user had configured "C:\" as a working directory, he/she has
been lost after the program data removal because the uninstaller did delete
everyithing on disk "C". Now the uninstaller distinguishes between account
configuration, message base, address books, and other files which are not of The Bat!
