Outlook Export Wizard

2012-04-10 Thread Eddie
Dear all,

On March 16 I asked for help in exporting Outlook eMails to TB!. I got
a rely suggesting to use Outlook Export Wizard from
http://www.outlookimport.com/description/outlook-export-wizard/ . I
now have done a conversion (first step) to extract the eMails and
folders. The whole .psd file is over 3 GB large with 13'000 eMails and
1'200 folders. Extraction time 3:15 hr. After extraction I now have
the folder structure with it's eMails in each folder ready to transfer
to TB!. Each eMail is separate with .msg extensions

To bring the over to TB! seems the hard part. I now notice, that it
does not create a .TBB file and that I must explicit Import those
eMails. But there is more - TB! does not allow me to select a bunch of
folders and imports those and where required also imports the .msg
files into the .TBB base file. It looks that I must process every
1'200 folder by hand.

Is there a simpler way of handling this? Maybe a way I didn't look
into properly?

I would appreciate your help as I need to transfer the eMails asap.
Many thanks in advance.

You could try this: http://www.aid4mail.com/
Let me know how it works out, never used it myself.

I'd upload it to an IMAP server with a Python script.

Ask the support. If they ever implemented a way to do it, they should help.
If they didn't, you have to work it around through an open format like my
suggestion above. 'cuz TB's base format is as proprietary as Outlook's.

Aha, a good step too.

THe side gave me some hints on various problems that can emerge during
conversion (Outlook to TB!). I face three points I must look out:
-- Embedded images and other media
   -- Diacritical marks (like é, è, ç)
   -- Non-latin characters

So I am also looking into this tool. And 20$ for home use is
affordable.

Thunderbird, TB's import wizard is supposed to be able to read that.
However it's supposed to be able to read Outlook too and from your
message I gather that that isn't true.

I only see now the Mailbox Import Wizard under Import Messages. But
that requires to have Outlook installed and not just having the PST
file on your Harddisk. But it goes to the point to ask If I wish to
import Outlook Contacts. That's all.
So to give aou the answr; No I didn't try to directly import from
Outlook. I think he is using Outlook 2007.

Do I understand you correct that that work directly to import from
Outlook PST file? If Yes, I would install it here and do the
conversion. IN that cas I may install Outlook 2010. Are the PST files
compatible?

I would appreciate your help as I need to transfer the eMails asap.
 Many thanks in advance.

I would also recommend Aid4mail; I just used it to archive 65,000

Ok, I downloaded aid4mail and use it in trail mode. It seems that
extraction from pst file works but I can't seem to import it properly
into TB!. What have I tried?

1 - In TB! I tried to choose Import Wizard and select Outlook. That
behaved strangely. Once it asked if I want to import Contacts but
said it couldn't find a folder. Once it went a reaading - or
pretending reading until I had to kill TB! as I couldn't Cancel
it.

2 - By using aid4mail I extracted in Thunderbird (Eudora) and with the
TB! Import Wizard tried to Import as such. It ask me for a folder
and never went beyond that point.

3 - I tried to Extract into MSG and/or EML and wanted to import from
that. It didn't work. When I extract as MSG I can open that
file with Notepad and see the content. But in TB! nothing to see.

So I am now curious to hear from those who also either use aid4mail or
have done eMail import into TB! how your process is and what you are
selecting, choosing etc.

Thanks!
