Never mind... As I was typing, I think I discovered my problem: There are TOO MANY places where a sound may be enabled (account, filter, folder) and at least one of them (folder properties|sound) is not at all obvious (to me, at least). Now I'm trying to find the correct combination of settings to get the behavior I want.
