shouldn't that manager be accessible through right-clicking the html-tab?

Another thing, actually _where_ can I find the url-manager?

Re[3]: HTML Editor and Windows Editor in The Bat! 3.98.03

2007-03-04 Thread Vili
Hello Paul,

The US Dept. of Defense has banned HTML and Microsoft email clients
 and for good reason.

Where is news about it? DoE should do the same :)) Our secretaries
send ENORMOUS files just to say: Ok. It's like a tournament for them
in the Who can waste the most bandwidth category.

Don't you even suggest that we turn TB into the same crap. Being in
business is _no_ excuse for adulterating TB! If you want to jump in
the lake and drown, do it. Don't take anyone else with you. History
proves 80% of the people are wrong 80% of the time. I want to remain
 with the 20%.

: That was a very harsh comment, you must have listened the
Michael Savage show :))

I am on both sides of this discussion and by selling TB! also I can
see customer wishes.

What you talk about would be viable IF Ritlabs would be a nonprofit
agency. Then they could go for the best for the mankind email
client. Unfortunately, they have to feed their family, too. As us.
They just have to go with the flow sometimes. See the HTML editor.
Nobody can prove me why HTML mail MUST be used in business. There is
just no reason for it. Any formatted data can be send as attach. But
people are being brainwashed everyday, children coming out of US
schools with lots of medals and cups (getting those for e.g. standing
in a straight line before lunch... I am serious), not hearing anything
else, but only good job, fantastic work, marvellous behavior
etc. even the laziest, most stupid children. They will be adults. So,
this is your market. What can you sell them? Email client that is easy
to use, no need to think, everything is taken care of. Reading
manuals, help??? Come on...

I dont think, that TB! would turn into trash if it would support
external HTML editors. You would not use it, I would not use it. But I
dont use IMAP neither.

(PS: I described the US market as this is the biggest, most
influencing one for any product... As I am from Hungary, and hope that
US people dont think, it is an offense. Those are my observations. In
Hungary, we have more and more similar problems now that US has...
Stupid ministers, lying prime minister, etc. But at least -so far- we
are realistic in education.)

P2.: Paul, you helped me not once over the years, last time just
recently. I hope, you neither will take this mail as offense, or
something. It is just like a scientific conversation for me, where we
even cut each other throats over scientific facts/observations, but
when it is over, we are buddies and go drink a beer. I think, that is
called profession. If I would keep my mouth shut because I respect
you, but have different opinion, that would be called prostitution.

Power comes at a cost. It's not acceptable to have limits because some
people just don't know any better. The car makers don't put speed
limits in their cars because they might be bought by some lame driver
 that may kill himself.

LG Now granted. IE made their primary mistake because everything was
LG on by default. But my point is that Microsoft gave the users
LG what they wanted without ever trying to tell them why it was
LG risky. The internet used to be a wonderful place, now you have to
LG check, double-check and triple check just about everything you do.
LG Popups were a great idea at first. A nice way to display
LG information without disrupting the flow of the visitors browsing
LG of their main site. Now we have a whole box of bandaids to prevent
LG popups.

MS didn't realize how their technology could be misused...

 snipped

Firstly, speed limits in cars is a weak argument. People know their
cars can go faster, they don't often know where security exploits are
in any operating system. And, your retort about Microsoft not knowing
how their technology could be misused is also fairly weak. When MS
tied the browser to the operating system (Windows), it was a reaction
to their marketing goals of tying the personal computer to the
web--strictly networking. The reasons why their technology can be
misused is that the OS and IE are joined to such a degree that MS, in
a court deposition, said they couldn't be separated without losing the
OS integrity.

This, then is the rub. But then you could say if the browsers gain
popularity, then they too will be exploited. Yes, if they do it's
because of the holes in the OS... poor coding to rush a product to
market.

That Bill came out a year or so back and said he is making security a
priority begs the question, why now? --why not years ago?

And to bring this back to on-topic... designing a HTML interface to
TB! means making certain the doors between the client and os are
locked securely and then give the key to the user.

This of course I already knew.

I like the rich text viewer, without the HTML messages. I have it set
so that the message displays in comic sans, and the quotes in arial,
and find it much easier on the eyes than the PTV fixed width fonts.
Right now, I have HTML showing automatically since it seems to be part
of the drill for beta testing, but I often have to switch away from
the HTML to read the messages, because of long lines all the way
across the screen. I know for me reading the rich text viewer is
easier, because of the contrast with the fixed width I'm looking at
while composing messages.
