Hello John,

On Sun, 16 Nov 2003 21:57:25 -0600 your time, you said:

JM> I don't understand this, could you explain it to me in a little more
JM> detail?
JM> Maybe a "for instance" or example or twol
JM> Thank

Above is your message quoted. In this case I selected/highlighted the
text in your message that I was replying to and then I hit the F4 key.
As you can see, TB! doesn't mess about with the quoted text at all,
which is correct, as it is "quoted". However, sometimes when text is
quoted it can prove to be a bit unwieldy, especially when the message
you are replying to hasn't been wrapped beforehand and the text is on
one line that strays across the width of the screen (say 130 or more
characters for example). I'd therefore want to quickly reformat the
lengthy quoted lines as I was replying to make them easily readable.
To do this I'd simply place the TB! caret anywhere within or next to
the quoted text with a single mouse click, and then either hit the ALT
+ L key to wrap the lines to the word wrap setting I'd previously set
in Editor Preferences, or I'd hit the ALT + J key to wrap the lines to
the word wrap setting and justify the text as well.

This is your text after I've clicked anywhere in the text message to
place the TB! caret, and then hit ALT + J:

JM> I don't understand this, could you explain it to me in a little
JM> more detail? Maybe a "for instance" or example or twol Thank

Another example of when the wrap shortcut keys are useful is when you
are typing a message with TB!'s autowrap feature on, and go back and
edit parts of the text. For example, if I typed this:

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox
jumped over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy
dog.

and then went back and corrected it like this:

The quick brown fox jumped over the *lackadaisical feline*. The quick brown fox
jumped over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox *leap frogged* over the lazy
dog.

The text would need reformatting. So a simple ALT + J/L would reformat
it.

And after this explanation I've just realised that what you were
asking me to explain was an error. Doh! Ah well, I'll send this
anyway. Someone else might find it useful...well you never know.

There are either one or two bugs in the program depending on which version
you have.

To test the version you have try the following:

Assuming you want the Scheduler to operate at 19.00, set the time to 22.00.
When you click OK it will jump back to 20.00, and actually trigger at 20.00
or 19.00 depending on your version.

These bugs have been reported and have been marked as confirmed by Bugtrack.

The Scheduler is usable, but at this stage you have to humour it little
quirks!

What phrase or code does all bounces have in common?

2003-11-17 Thread Victor B. Gonzalez
Hello tbudl,

I plan on sending out auto-replies to e-mail which I consider bad.
Incase after an auto-reply is sent out and the message is meant to
bounce, I do not wish to send an auto-reply to the bounced mail.

I filter bad mail through e-mail address only. So the bad email
  sends me a message, I send an auto-reply, bad-email bounces, I send
another auto-reply, bounce, reply, bounce, reply, etc...

I do not wish to go into a mean loop and worse case scenario be
  labeled a spammer.

What I need to do is apply a filter before all others which check to
see if the message is being bounced back. If the message is a bounce
I would like to filter it to a bounce folder so not to kill good
  bounces.

What do all bounces have in common? I wish to filter against the one
single ID all bounces have in common or at least should have in
common without being way too general about it.

I do not wish to filter mail which carries one single word. It has
to be a term, a phrase, or something which should not be found in
any regular email (another reason why I should filter to a folder).

So what is the one thing (preferably phrase) all bounces have in
  common?

There's no phrase all bounces have in common. What all proper bounces
do have in common is an empty return path address, but I'm not sure
whether you're able to filter against that, nor how you should go
about it...
The other you need to take into account is that your bounces or
autoreplies ought to be addressed the return path address of the
message. Not to the old from address. A bounce of the message I'm
replying to, should be send to the list bounce address
[EMAIL PROTECTED] in stead of your own address.

Since you're using your own domain, it could be useful to use your own
bounce address in your bounces, etc. Make them have [EMAIL PROTECTED]
as from and return path address and delete all mail addressed to that
address without mercy. ;-) Saves you from endless loops. Depending on
your (ISP's) mailserver it may or may not be possible for you to set
the return path, so you might need to search the text of the incoming
messages for your bounce address too.

Is there anything these messages (I'm presuming it happens more than
once) have in common? Size, origin, folder, whatever.
Still the same problem when you move them to a different folder. in
case you've filtered them to another folder on receipt, can you read
them fully when you browse for deleted messages in your Inbox?

When it's a folder thing, it might be a solution to close TB and
delete/rename the matching messages.tbi for that folder. (But leave
the messages.tbb alone, that's where TB stores your actual messages.)

In case it isn't a folder thing you'll need to give us more hints.

Search bug?

2003-11-17 Thread Michael S. Greenbaum
I did a couple of searches today using the message finder. In each
case, it displayed one fewer than the number of results it said it
found.

For one search, it said along the bottom of the window that it found 2
messages. But it displayed only one. There *were* two messages but I
had to find the other one manually.

Later on I did another search. The message said it found 5 messages,
but it displayed only 4.

I'm using 2.01.3 business edition. Is this a known problem?

Any suggestions?

GnuPG Smart-matching

2003-11-17 Thread Edgar
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hello All,

As descripted on this page: http://www.landscreek.net/gpg_pgp_tb.html
TB! uses smart matching for signing with gpg.
But there should also be a pop-up screen to go around it.

In MID:[EMAIL PROTECTED] I described some
problems I have.

When using a reply to address that's not my from address and
starting with a-n it will match the wrong UID, when it starts
with an o-z it will match the right UID.
(I use this for my yahoo mailing groups)

This looks like a bug to me.
- - Can someone confirm.

- - Why don't get I the pop-up screen?
- - Any solution? I like to use gpg but when it's not working I
  probably go back to pgp.

 Edgar

Search bug?

2003-11-17 Thread Michael S. Greenbaum
I just resubscribed today to this list and sent in a question about a
problem I encountered doing a search. I sued the above subject line.

However, I don't seem to be getting email from the list yet, so if
anyone has replied on this topic, could they cc me at the above
address--just until my list mail begins arriving.

Thanks.

But I didn't collect a cent! :) Obviously I didn't proofread
either.

Should have, obviously, been: "I used the above subject line."

Can't confirm that on my part. I'm using 2.01.3 too, though not the
business edition. OS is W98.
Over here I get as much messages displayed as TB says it has found.

I just solved my own problem.

I didn't have the View Threads by in the View menu set to none.

As soon as I set it to none, everything was fine.

Why pay for spam filtering when there are really good free filters?

I'm using "K9" (a proxy, not a TB! spam plug-in), and I'm really happy
with it. Just after installation, it was catching 95%, and now, after
some training, it's catching 99% with no false positives!

I think the plug-ins that work with TB! are free as well.

If you're interested in K9, here's the URL:

problems with yahoo attachments

2003-11-17 Thread Vishal
Hi,

Has anyone figured out what to do when you receive attachments from Yahoo via
Web2pop or some other proxy? I rarely manage to get them intact..instead I end
up with a 1.msg (or 2.msg, 3.msg if there are more attachments) file that I
have no idea how to open.

Cheers,

-Vishal

selective download of messages with attachments from server using filters

2003-11-17 Thread Vishal
Hi,

This is related to another question I just posted. I retrieve my Yahoo mail
via web2pop. However, any attachments I receive are in the form of 1.msg files
that I cannot open. I usually delete messages from the server when I download
them, but I'd like to create a filter that leaves messages on the server if
they have attachments or are forwards. How could I do this? The filter options
offered no clue, so a first (very quick) guess at how to do it was:

1. create one filter for all messages with the options "message does not have
attachments" and "delete from server" checked. The account properties would
have to be modified to leave mail on the server.
2. create a second filter for all messages with the option "message has
attchments" checked and "delete from server" unchecked.

Cheers,

-Vishal

MR> Why pay for spam filtering when there are really good free filters?

There are a couple of good reasons to use (and pay for) something like
SpamCop's filtering service. I have used it for almost 2 years now.

Firstly the filtering is done on their server. Viruses don't even get near
my pc, and only stuff that isn't spam makes my Bat. As spam continues its
ever increasing prevalence spamcop can scale on my behalf. The bandwidth
to my PC can be the email I want, not the up to 200 spams per day.

Also it enables my spam that is caught to be easily reported, thus keeping
those admins who care informed, and the blocking list fresh.

Once you have any whitelist entries that might need, there is no
configuration or training required by spamcop, it does all that for you,
automatically.

cheers,
davidp.

Are there any drawbacks to a proxy vs a TB! Plug-in?
