I have gone back to this because:

3.6.24 is broken: new messages created do not use the template set for a common 
folder
when creating a new message. And this is an integral part of my organisational 
system
here.

3.6.0x is broken: it hangs on a random account when connecting to download 
messages. I
have seven accounts from which I download and always one hangs and the only way 
to quit is
to CTRL-ALT-DEL and kill TB.

I think I saw it happen once the first time I tested last night. But
then I tried several times, and just now again, and worked fine here.
