Once upon a time some spammer(s) did choose to use TB! due to it's
configuriblity. This lead to some ISPs decision to simply ban TB!
traffic than to expend any effort toward better filters. This practice
is seeming hard coded into some ISPs' thinking (&/or hardware software

Due to spectacular malfunction in the process of deductive reasoning. An
excellent material for anthropologists of 21st century.

Besides, and apart from this, Laurie, since you are new to TB, if you
don't like the smell of a (not very fresh) trout, then you shouldn't
top-post when you reply to a message (only bottom-posting is acceptable
after the rules of the list), and you should have so called cut-mark, at
the end of your message.

The "cut-mark" consists of two dashes and one empty (letter) space, at
the beginning of the line, after which you hit the enter button: "-- ".

  ***

(It would be also very good if someone would include eventually these
two basic informations/rules in the famous "Mission Statement", together
with needed explanations what they serve for and how to apply them, so
the new people could have a chance to avoid trouting for nothing. I
suppose that such things have higher priority than those about "The
Roguemoticon Project" and on how thus to enter The Bat Cartoon Network.

Actually, is there something like that in a message every member gets
after just had been subscribed to the list? I vaguely remember that
time...does such a message still exist in these modern times?)

X-Mailer cannot be edited or otherwise changed from within TB! If you
want to modify it for selected recipients, you will either need an
external application like X-Ray Mail Assistant (http://xrayapp.com),
or use the "User-Agent" header for your mailer information (see the
headers in this message).

Otherwise just turn it off from Options->Preferences->General. Uncheck
"Use X-Mailer header in messages (for administrative purposes)".

I am on a lot of mailing lists. I finally had to
simply remove it altogether rather than chance
further problems. There are several large servers
that out and out refused to allow my mail through
when it listed TB!.

I know under Options / Preferences / General, you can uncheck "Use

I've recently had a couple of emails blocked from two different ISP's
who claim The Bat is a known spammer. Of course I know this is
bull, and I forwarded the info at Ritlabs on the subject to their
IT Dept's to no avail. Can I use a filter to change the x-mail header
when I send an email to these two people who use these ISP's? I know
this won't stop future problems at unknown servers, but I email these
two people frequently and it is a real pain to login to Yahoo Webmail
to send my regular correspondence to them. Thanks to all - I've been a
member and avid reader of this list for years but have never posted
because I just rarely have a problem with this great
application...Mike

The individual template has top priority, then the others follow.

Commandline is your friend. Simply type "CD %TMP%" and there you are (I
know that you probably know this Marck, but I found it worth
mentioning).

Most of the pre-defined environment variables in Windows 2000/XP are
very handy. I'd place the signature file in "%USERPROFILE%" (or maybe in
"%APPDATA%\The Bat!") - that way, the configuration is just as flexible
and not limited to a fixed path as if using a QT.

To see which environment variables exist, open a command window and just
type "SET" without any arguments.
