I need to correct something - the message/attachment I mentioned
above is in fact still in the outbox and has not yet been sent.
Therefore one way to prevent multiple saved attachments is to
attach them only when the message is ready to send. In retrospect I
can't verify that previous instances aren't also saved while the
message is still in draft form. Still, any idea why this is happening?

I'm sending. I just send a photo to a friend, and discovered that TB!
had stored 704 copies of it in my attachment directory. This isn't the
first time multiple copies have been stored, but usually it's only
been a few extra.

Any idea what's causing this and what I can do to stop it?

Not true. When the windowing station is shutting down, all running
applications receive a message as such. Well behaved applications
ensure that they can be shutdown and terminate themselves. However,
since some application may not be in a clean state for shutdown (e.g.,
a word processor with unsaved documents), an application can tell
Windows to abort the shutdown.

Poorly or maliciously programmed applications can halt the shutdown
for no reason by responding to the shutdown message appropriately.

In newer versions of Windows (Windows Vista, I believe), this vector
has been reduced by only allowing applications to delay, but not halt,
a shutdown or log-off.

Howdy Flying Rodent fans,

My maintaince centre just did something very strange. I set it to
purge and compress two very bloated folders that i didnt feel the
need to keep anymore. So I selected the folders and set the bat off
to do its work. It said that it only went through one folder, and
compressed the messages. It actually went through both. Just seems a
little odd to me that it recognised how many messages it purged but
not how many folders it did this in.

It will, yes. Open Registry (start|run|regedit) and go to the folder...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\rit\

...and delete entire \rit folder.

   *

If you want though to {pre|con}serve your settings, then before the
deletion save/export the related registry file (select the \rit folder,
then Registry | Export Registry File...).

   *

If you want to install TB again at the same place/position/path (eg.
C:\Program Files\The Bat!), then just compress/copy entire \The Bat!
folder and export its registry file.

Then the new installation would consist of just extracting/copying \The
Bat! folder to the previous place, and then of running the registry
file.

True. The stuff left in the registry is under HKCU/Software/RIT.
Delete that key after you delete the folder, and you should be fine.

I think. Please wait for others to agree or disagree with my advice
before doing anything.

If you didn't run the installer, there won't be any entry in Add/Remove
Programs, since you didn't install anything.

Anyway, if Windows doesn't shut down properly, it can't be The Bat's (or any
other program's that doesn't install kernel-mode drivers) fault. I would
suggest you to scan your computer for spyware, which could cause the
problems you're having (use at least SpyBot S&D and AdAware, and if possible
SpySweeper).

How to uninstal The Bat 1.x?

2006-09-23 Thread Mary Cassidy
I recently had to get a new hard drive, and I'm now having problems with it,
because Windows 2000 won't shut down properly.

The guy who installed the hard drive said something must have gone wrong
with one of the programs I installed after he delivered it, and to try
uninstalling and reinstalling them.

I've done a virus scan with AVG in safe mode, but it didn't find anything.

I've uninstalled most of the programs, but I can't work out how to uninstal
The Bat.

I have version 1.60h, and according to the Help file, I should uninstall it
from the Add/Remove programs part of the Windows Control Panel, but it isn't
there.

When I reinstalled it, I didn't go through Add/Remove programs - I just
double-clicked on thebat.exe .

Can anyone suggest how I should uninstal it? I could just delete the folder,
but I assume that'll leave stuff in the Registry.

Regards,
Mary
