I have lost the F4 functionality (highlighting a portion of an in-coming message and replying to the sender, but quoting only the highlighted portion). I don't know why, but on the XP box the F4 does a reply with an empty reply message, which is same thing you describe. Like your situation, I have no idea of the reason for difference.
