The bat itself works???

I paid for my Thebat V4 upgrade just before Christmas and then they
made an upgrade so I upgraded. Stupid in a way as an upgrade just
before a holiday season is a good way to get unwanted problems.

version numbers are on a page on the website where you download from..
And no, I just paid so unlikely I have to pay again for a bug fix..
Anyway after all the bugs I have seen one more or less makes little
difference... (I don't mean in the bat but in general!!).
I just went back to last one which worked for me: 4.0.38 . Doesn't
handle msg's larger then 2 gb or so but I cannot see that to be a
problem

Ok, sending this and then reinstalling whatever the last update is.

Are we perhaps talking about in a collapsed tree branch? If so then I
never noticed. It would have to highlight to let you know there was an
unread message in the branch (?)

I'm with Rick here, I never saw what you are now missing. Had they
implemented it, I would have protested: Only unread messages should be
shown as unread, not the messages above it. Because I have read them
already. They are not unread, so they shouldn't be shown as unread
only because a new message is added at the bottom.

So, all is fine.

I've now had a response via the RitLabs Ticket system and they asked for
more information (from .txt & .log files in root of mail directory tree) and
supplied a Beta version since 4.1.7. I'd also looked at paying for the
upgrade from v3 licence to the v4 licence. As I last paid for the upgrade
4 years ago I decided to pay and re-upgrade to v4.1.7 (& then to v4.1.9 as
it was just released). This all worked and I now have access to the Address

Don't know what went wring in your case, or where you got your version
(numbers) from. Have you tried doing a compact/compress of your email
message base, and doing a backup, before trying to upgrade again? Also, do
you, like me, need to pay for the upgrade before trying to install it?

It only changed the messages directly above the new one all the way up
the thread. If the thread branched, those not above the new message
didn't change.

My default view is that unread messages are listed bold red on a black
background (my "unread messages" colour group). When read they go
white and not bold ("messages I have read" colour group). If not read
but just marked as read they are red not bold. Until quite recently,
the messages above a new addition to the thread displayed white bold
on a black background (unread setting in my "messages I have read"
colour group), so it is very clear when scanning through the message
list which threads have new additions. This visual aid is no longer
there and it would be good to have it back.

I think this changed when I upgraded from v4.0.32.4 to v4.0.38 but it
may have been a slightly earlier upgrade.

Hmm. I just tried again and if I delete (or rename) the account.qtb
files in the accounts, the files are still re-created and the QTs
reappear in those accounts. Keeping an empty text file called
account.qtb in the account folders does the trick but I am damned if I

I am ashamed to say I never heard of Blink but as you know that means
little.
I did a search with google and it seems to be a system resident
search engine. No idea if that's what you mean!
AV getting into my system via various disks are F-secure,
Avira, Comodo, and a few others I know and know I can ask questions.
NO NORTON, NO McAfee...
Easeus makes nice data recovery software/copy software but while you
have to know what to watch for, no problems with it. Another website
is the www.runtime.org one but lets say unknown stuff doesn't get into
my system. AND, I do not mix them!! That I did only once many years
ago. I noticed that I seem to have a slightly more stable system after
several spy-ware files got knocked out. With a 'cleaned' hard disk I
can even get updates for Avira.. So once I have F-secure back and
running I will scan my system again to see what it finds as other culprits .
And if the Bat works.

DO you or anyone else know a WORKING program keeping track of what gets
installed and what notIe FILE by FILE???

from their previous locations. All good but I notice the account.qtb

no longer any QTs there. I find that if I delete those account.qtb

in their old location (as well as in the common location).

Obviously, a workaround is to leave the redundant account.qtb files

Basically it comes to this.
The Inbox is a high traffic folder: every message that enters your
message base first arrives in the Inbox, moving and deleting
(automatically and manually) means another mutation of your Inbox.
Due to these multiple mutations it's easy for things to go awry.
There's your first reason not to use the Inbox for permanent storage.
When your Inbox is large it's more difficult to mutate it then when
it's small, so using the Inbox for permanent storage makes it more
likely for things to go awry.
Of course executing compress and purge daily minimises the chance that
things go bad.

I've never had a corrupt Inbox, so I've never been bitten, but in the
past the issue came up regularly. But why use a mail client with an
extensive filtering engine like TB when you store everything in the

New Message Template

2009-01-08 Thread Barry
Hi

A number of my programs have a menu option to send a new mail message using
the default email program (in my case TheBat! 4.1) with the current document
as an attachment.

This seems to work in most cases other than the default new message template
isn't used and I am presented with a blank window.

Is there any way to make TB start with the new message template every time or
is it limited only to new messages started from within TB?

Although I have a number of accounts I do have one selected as the default

Thomas, this is supposing I guess that I can run 4.1.17 or whatever
but I cannot as last time I tried I still crashed and I saw I am
not the only one where either a clean or upgrade of system goes wrong.
No idea what goes wrong but I end up with NO executable in the Bat
directory!!! I checked it obviously manually and you can also see it as the
bat Icon on desktop goes to the one used in case it refers to a missing
file. And it really is missing... So I am running 4.0.38
I had a msg when booting up the bat just now that there was a new
upgrade but no idea what got fixed.
