Re: What is a natural email system?
Hello Michael, MLW What makes The Bat a natural email system. Can someone please explain MLW what this phrase means and why it is attached to The Bat? First of all it is advertising :) But for me it means that: 1. most of things can be done both by keyboard and by mouse 2. most of hotkeys can be configured to satisfy wishes of user. 3. there are a lot of things which make life much easier a) Alt+arrows/PgUp/PgDn in message list scroll message b) quick creation of filters c) mark read/del work on folder/account level AND with the same hotkey d) easy move between unread messages There are a lot of other tricks, I just described often used by me which I really miss in some other programs I had (or tried) to use (rss readers, and specialized for site news reader) -- 9Val Current version is 3.00.00 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Re: v3.0 filter failure
Hello Bill, BM I was about to upgrade to v3 today when I came upon this thread. This BM looked like a real deal breaker until I did some analysis of my own BM incoming filters. It has a trial period :) BM I only have 13 filters that contain RegEx and 12 of them are of the BM form: You can send to me some messages (or just their headers) for testing And old filters in .srx file BM My 13th filter looks for a RegEx in any 'recipient' field. The RegEx BM is: BM ,.*,.*,|pobox\.com.*pobox\.com Tested on syntetical generated message and works fine -- 9Val Current version is 3.00.00 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: v3.0 filter failure

Re: v3.0 filter failure
Hello Doug, 9Val There was a bug with message source filtering which was already fixed. 9Val BTW, message source filtering is too expensive operation, there it is 9Val possible use header or text filtering DW I don't think I understand this -- and does it mean one should always DW use header filtering rather than filter by one field in a header? No, it means only that when it is possible narrower type of search should be used. And therefore full message source search should be used quite rarely only for special purposes if you want to achieve better performance -- 9Val Current version is 3.00.00 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: TB v3.0 is still a Beta whether RL likes it or not
Hello Mary, MB Yes. But with the smiley interpreter on, the handles without colons in MB the default.msl can be startling, and I see that 9Val has still not MB had time to edit them. Hmm, quite strange, I've deleted MB GRR , grr , and headshot and other handles without colons from default.msl, may be problem is that installation haven't overwritten your local files? -- 9Val Current version is 3.00.00 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Jumpy Mail Ticker
Hello Mary, MB So, if building and testing is still going on, is there a chance you MB can have a look at why the mail ticker is still jumping? Heh, problem is that I tried to reproduce it not once, but failed MB When I begin to select messages in the main window from the folder MB message lists, I use Sort by Received time, descending order and MB Thread by, None. I like to just go down through the mails MB chronologically, since I read everything. MB So, I read a message. Then I click on the blue Next arrow. And MB instead of the next September 2, 2004, message, I will get one from MB February 25, 2004. Or from August 2. Or June 15. It's random. Usually MB from the same folder, but not always. OK, I'll test it -- 9Val Current version is 3.00.00 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: .msl file format
Hello Alexander, ASK is the .msl format for the smiley description explained somewhere? Don't know, I understood it just looking :) ASK I'd interpret the lines as: ASK smiley=path, value, matches, description Correctly ASK ...but what is the value exactly? I only see it being 0 in the ASK default.msl and pdsf.msl files I have. Miranda-IM uses this format. And part of .msl are shipped with single .dll file. Value specifies index of icon in .dll. BTW, it is not implemented in TB! ASK In addition, how does TheBat handle multiple .msl files? Handles from higher priority .msl override similar from others ASK I see a file order.txt in the images folder, and apparently it ASK is written by TheBat... but what does it mean? Hmm, it shouldn't appear anymore - Max said that using of that file causes blah, blah, blah problems so I had to remove it and now order is saved in bat registry key/MslOrder. Does anybody need UI editor of order? -- 9Val Current version is 3.00.00 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: TB v3.0 is still a Beta whether RL likes it or not
Hello MAU, M - I didn't like the way and rush Ritlabs threw the new release on us. Me too :) M - I didn't like the lack of communication. It is hard to communicate in this case. Maxim explained official position and there is nothing to add and it is not situation there unofficial positions should be expressed M But after a couple of days of using v3.0 for my normal work and reading M the reports in TBBeta and TBUDL, So it works normally for you? (just want to know, if it works for such advanced user as you are, then it is mostly finished) M I just and strongly believe the NFS is NOT mature enough for a M release version. Agree with you, but see below M So, unless Ritlabs opens a new beta cycle with a Beta version that, like M 2.13 Beta6/7/8, No new beta-cycles in near 1-2 weeks, as you understand, nothing depends of programmers now M I refuse to do any further debugging. Sad, I appreciate your testing M Later tonight I will report in TBBeta some of the bugs I've found. It will be great, may be some of them are already fixed M Then, I will downgrade, if I can, to version 2.12. Sad, as I said no new beta cycle would be introduced, so it will be hard to find and fix bugs without *real* usage of program. Less testers - slower fixes M But if RITLabs wants to count on me... new Beta cycle. Hmm, I can suggest you alternative beta cycle. As you probably know, in most cases every evening I make a daily build for internal testing Here is link to build: www.ritlabs.com/download/the_bat/beta/tbb-daily-build.rar Here is link to changelog: www.ritlabs.com/download/the_bat/beta/tbb-daily-build.txt That txt is included in build, but is located on server to see if anything actually changed No matter of your answer thanks again for honest expression of your opinion :) Have a nice night! -- 9Val Current version is 3.00.00 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Hello Robin, RA I also continue to experience message lists that are blank when the RA folder is selected. It only occurs within a short period of time after TB! RA has been started (say the first 5 mins) but it has happened that a folder RA will display the contents initially, but when I move away from it and RA back again, the message list becomes blank. RA This is not a case of viewing a subset of messages - I have tried going RA to the View menu and selecting different options under Display to try to RA refresh the display, but that has no effect. The only solution I have RA found is simply waiting until the messages appear in the list again. This RA may take anywhere from 10 secs to a couple of minutes. Re[2]: IMAP - another specific query
Hello Kevin, KA Actually, all the IMAP servers are local on gig ethernet. Speed is not KA an issue. I will admit some of the speed issues are the result of my KA TB settings. I have had so many problems with IMAP synchronizations, I KA finally flush all the caches on exit so, on the resultant start-up, KA everything has to be restored. I also have autosync turned on. But, it KA is still significantly slower than Outlook or Thunderbird. Well, at home I'm working with IMAP at 21.6Kbit dial-up. So speed is a really *big* issue for me. And I prefer to use TB! without any synchronization - I just walk through folders and TB! loads only UIDS and Flags (downloading headers for last 1000 mails from TBBETA is quite slowly on clients which load full headers) . After selecting folder I'm walking through unread messages and only they are loaded - no overhead. So... May be Thunderbird is faster on wide connections, don't know and have no possibility to test -- :9Val: Current version is 2.11.02 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
