security settings in mailfolders get reset

2001-04-06 Thread Tobias Wrede

Hello list,

I encountered a strange problem recently. I am running W2k and use TB!
under an user account called "tob" and under the administrator
account. I had moved the whole TB! installation from an existing NT4
installation by copiing folders and importing the registry keys for
the administrator as well as for tob.

All works fine under both accounts save one annoying thing. When I
work as administrator and delete a mail in a folder (by manually
deleting or by automaticaly purging after a certain time) the security
settings for the .tbb and .tbi files of that folder are reset. The
user tob gets removed from the list leaving only adminstrator and
system with access to the files. Subsequently I cannot access these
folders under the tob account w/o manually adding tob to the security
settings and granting him full access.

This behaviour appeared at least with v1.49, 1.49g and 1.51. Any ideas
why that happens? Or did I srew up any settings in W2k and our bat is
completely innocent in this matter?

Hello list,

this is not at all an solution to the problem. But something new came
up.

I'm using Opera 5.02. When I just doubleclick on a hyperlink in TB
a _new_ window with the URL opens. When I shift-doubleclick _three
new_ windows open. The first contains the URL "http:///nowin", the
second one "http:///e" and the third one finally the actual URL.

It doesn't bother me but strange it is, though.

First turn off the sound for new messages. Then create a filter at the

Sender). On the Actions tab activate Play Sound.

allow sound time interval

2000-12-10 Thread Tobias Wrede

Hello TBUDL,

This is another time interval topic apart from the "just curious:..."
thread, although it might apply there, too.

I have set "allow sound only within time interval" to 10:00-01:00. Now
I just received a mail at 01:15 and, guess what, the sound was played
anyway.

I played around a little with the time setting. It appears that the
silence time is ignored when the specified time intervall extends over
midnight. I send myself several messages (all between 01:15 and 01:40)
and with the interval set to 10:00-01:00 and 02:00-01:00 the sound
played anyway. With the interval set to 10:00-24:00 and 02:00-03:00
TB! stayed silent as supposed.

Maybe you "just curious:..." guys :-) could check if the same thing is
true for the filter setup.

Here you lost me. I'll try again. :-) Let me give you an example.

I already have the 100 messages in my TBUDL-folder. While I am reading
for example the 60th message a new message arrives and is sorted in as
10th message. If some of the messages around it are still marked
unread, because I wasn't interested in the subject, the new message
#10 would hide itself inbetween there. After finishing reading the 100
messages I usually mark them all and trash them. The new arrived
message is gone, too, without me noting that.

That's why I don't want any additonal mails to be put in the folder
while I am reading the ones I have.

iii) Enable 'no automatic dial for periodic checking'.
iv) Enable 'Use existing Dial-up connection (if any)'.

These are the exact same settings I used to use. However if a

Since I am connected through a LAN nowadays I cannot confirm if this

Using The Bat! 1.46c on Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6

Anything that happens, happens. - Anything that, in happening, causes
something else to happen, causes something else to happen. - Anything
that, in happening, causes itself to happen again, happens again. - It
doesn't necessarily do it in chronological order, though.

Open Windows Explorer, find a *.eml file, Shift then Right Click,
select Open With, when the dialogue appears select C:\Program
Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe, also tick the box which says "Always
 open With".

Unfortunately this didn't work for me. All it does is open up OE5, but
not the selected message. Any other options?

Try to put "%1" behind the program file (C:\Program Files\Outlook
Express\msimn.exe "%1").

I havent tried that, though.

Perhaps this is because those messages are marked to go out already
when the connection comes up, in other words, perhaps TB! is already
planning on sending them, so it's no big deal?

Right. Those messages appear in the queue (in the dialup-window) when
I start another send or pull. But IMO I should be able to send those
messages without waiting for the auto-dial (which shouldnt start
anyway. That is another bug) or sending or pulling different mails.

I tried to open the message that is sitting in the outbox and to send
it with the button in the editor window. Actually that worked fine on
first glance. But then I noticed that the message was sent twice. Once
from the editor and the second time from the queue.

Usually that bug doesnt bother me but when being in a hurry 120
seconds are driving you mad. ;-)

The Bat! - bug report

2000-07-17 Thread Tobias Wrede

Hello The Bat! developers, hello list,

I'm using The Bat! Version 1.44
  Serial Number A8C7A7C5
under Windows NT 4.0 Build 1381 Service Pack 6a
and would like to report a bug

  The bug description:

I use a dial-up connection to connect to the internet. Settings are
No automatical dial for periodical checking
Pause between dials 120 sec

Sometimes when I trie to dial up it doesnt work (device does not
answer, or so). This is not an Bat error.

When I klick on the "Send queued mail" button and the above error
occurs it is not possible to send afterwards. To be precise, when
klicking that button again the dialogue "nothing to send" appears.

There are two solutions then. Firstly after 120 secs TheBat will
dial in and send the mail automatically. Secondly I check mail.
Sending mail then appears in the queue and the mail is sent.

It should be possible to send the mail without eather waiting or
  checking mail.

  Steps to reproduce the bug:

Write a mail, put it in the outbox. Then press the send mail button
and hope that the connection cannot be made. ;-) After that try
again to send the mail. Doesnt work.

Related to that problem is another bug. When an error occurs during
dialup TheBat ignores the "no automatical dial" setting. That can
get verry costly when the computer is not watched.

Regards,
  Tobias Wrede

SP 6a here.

Create a new filter. Try to use the mouse to enter the text box for the
string to search on. Will not work.

works here.

From that field (must be tabbed into)

You mean 'clicked into'? It was your point above that you cant tab
into. Did I get something wrong.

try to tab into the drop down boxes
next to it. Will not work.

confirmed. But you can enter that drop down boxes with the arrow keys.
But then again I cannot scroll in the list. :-(

Definitly its a strange usage of tabkey and arrowkeys.

Re: Disappearing attachments

Hello List,

The same, BUT it concerns just HTML attachments, so it's a features

It also happens w/ txt-files. So its a bug.

DH I have just installed the 1.42 version yesterday, and noticed
DH today that often, when I click on a message showing an
DH attachment, the attachment icon immediately disappears,

Please download the latest build of 1.42, it is 1.42f from The Bat!
 official home page - http://www.ritlabs.com/the_bat/

Generally, we recommend to all users to download 1.42f to be on the
 safe side of things...

It happens w/ 1.42 and still w/ 1.42f. So far it only happened to
.txt-files containing the message. Extract from the headers of the
concerning messages:

X-OpenMail-Hops: 1
Message-Id: H63a0872b242@MHS
Subject: Werkstoffkunde III/IV
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; name="BDY.TXT"
Content-Disposition: inline; filename="BDY.TXT"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
X-UIDL: *Ae9=JN!!S(id9XB_d9

The File BDY.TXT is saved to the attachment folder and the
X-Content-File header is generated properly. Nevertheless when I click
on the message in the message list the attachment-icon disappears and
the message is empty (apart from the headers). The attachment isn't
shown in the message window nor on the bottom tab either. W/ html
attachments the issue works fine though.

Re: Nicknames, Favourites and Auto-Completion

Incorrect. Last time I checked it only expands names when you leave the
field in question. If you enter a nick and hit F2 without leaving the field
it will not expand but it will try to send.

Furthermore there are some other oddities with the TO-field and the
nicks.

In most cases I use a person's first name as nick. When entering the
nick in the field after a second or so, the bat completes the name
with an entry from the history. You can avoid this by leaving the
field before that mentionend second.

Often this doesn't matter as the completed name is the one you want.
But in that case it doesn't change the capitalization. Since I usually
enter the nicks in small letters only, a completed address then has the
first name starting with a small letter and the middle/last names are with
capital letters as entered in the addressbook.

Another thing is that you have to seperate several nicks/addresses by
";". Otherwise the nicks won't expand. When just entering comlete
addresses a "," works fine, too.
