So here I am. And now I want to post my solution for the benefit of anyone else who runs across it: I erased my hard drive a month or so ago; it's something I do periodically to make Windows loose some weight (usually 50% if it's a six-months old installation. I try out a lot of software). After I did this, of course, I re-installed my apps (Including TheBat!) and filled in the mail base from another copy. When I set up the bat I did point it, as always, to my proper keyrings and randseed file. Alas, I forgot to check the box that indicates that I'm using version 6. SO, it was trying to use the version 6 keyrings according to the "internal" method. Neither the public nor the private keyring contained anything it could recognize---and all signatures came up as invalid. Moral of the story: check all your settings carefully when you discover a "bug!" Tony -- Tony A.T. Mendina "Windows: a big, pretty, expensive virus." PGP signature verification: always get invalid signature format
This kind of think came up this time last year, and though the discussion on how to transliterate Russian names was interesting, I couldn't find a solution in the archives. So here I am. Whenever I try to validate a signature using The Bat!, the PGP signature validation log pops up and tells me that the signature is invalid, and the signer is "unknown," because of "(unknown signature format)". I assume I've got something set up wrong, but I've tried pgp 5.5, 6.5.8, no pgp installed, and versions of The Bat! 1.42 thru 1.47. Reboots don't help. Both the Bat! PGP plugin dlls and the pgp dlls that come with 6.5.8 are in the windows/system directory, which is of course in the system path. The bat's pgp plugin dlls are also found in The Bat's program directory. Any suggestions? Is there something obvious I've missed? Thanks, Tony -- Tony A.T. Re: SOT: Replacement for M$'s Word?
You do know, I hope, that you can turn off the spelling and grammar checking, as well as the "auto format as you type" that changes the format of text when you don't want it to? Word was very much finished, except for long filename handling, around version 2. It was no good as a desktop publisher, but it *STILL* isn't any good as a desktop publisher. Since word hit its peak as a word-processor around version 2, it's only logical that Micro$oft has now updated it to around version 9 (Office 2000). (end of rant) Tony Sir Jinx! HTML Removal from Replies--any faster ways?
I don't like sending out email with HTML tags in it; I know most people can read them nowadays, I just don't like it. Call me a curmudgeon (I'll smile). Sometimes, though, a reply contains tags from the message it's a reply to. Has anyone composed a macro or tool to remove these, or is the fastest way available to delete them character-by-charater by hand? I seem to remember the existence of a couple of tag-strippers that were external programs, and I could use one of these; I'm just hoping someone will suggest one to me. Maybe there's an option in The Bat! that I haven't found yet... Thanks, Tony -- Tony A.T. Mendina "Ideas are not responsible for the people who believe in them."
