You can have more than one rule in each filter. If you add additional
rules by clicking on Add under the Rules tab, these condition have to
met at the same time (logical .AND.). But if you want to make a
logical .OR. (as for several different IP addresses), you can add them
under the Alternatives tab.

Yes, they're the same because you need to define additional search
strings in a similar fashion whether they are 'and' or 'or' string
searches. The alternative tabs section provides a way to add 'or'
strings so that the filter search successfully matches when any of
those defined strings are detected singly or in combination.

I see that you need to add many addresses. Are there any similarities
between the addresses. IOW's do a lot of them share the same domain
name. A regular expression could be used to cover all addresses that
share the same domain name.

If you select "Regular Expressions" under the Options tab, your filter
strings will be assumed to be RegExps. So you can use the syntax and
power of RegExps to find the string you're looking for. For example,
suppose you want to find any messages with "Subscribe" in the Subject
field. But you know people can't type, so you might define a regexp
like the following: "(?i)Subs[cribe]{4,5}" This will allow them to
leave out one of the last 5 letters and/or mess up the order of the
last 5 letters.

No, the filters just have the *option* to be slightly more
complicated. You can always just use simple search strings if that's
what you need. I personally don't use regexps in (most of) my filters
because they aren't usually necessary. Usually you'd have a fairly
specific search criteria that doesn't require regexps.

There are a few RegEx experts on this list, and as you can see from my
wrong reply (thinking that "*" was the wild card instead of "." - how
could I?), I'm not one of them. But still, I use TB's filters
extensively. The option to use RegEx is an additional feast for highly
advanced users, and while unneccesary for mortals, allows more than
most other email client.

Januk didn't mean to scare you off of filters. He's just your average
genius and didn't think mortals find it a bit on the complicated side.
But he's a nice guy, too, and always willing to help. ;-)
