Does the internal backupfunction back up the registry key?

Hello Michael, This is a reply to your message dated

Yes, I believe you can just move the folders over but be sure to keep
a copy of everything on the old machine or somewhere else till you see
if everything works.

This command will copy TBs registry key to a file called "backbat.reg"
into a directory called "bat" of drive D. Make adjustments if you need to
copy it to a floppy or other drive.

regedit /e d:\bat\batback.reg hkey_current_user\software\rit

This one will restore registry entries to c:\thebat which is where I
keep the program. I have my backup stored in d:\bat Again, make needed
changes to the path. I use Windows 98se. I don't know if this works on
95 or 2K. Hope this helps.

regedit /c d:\bat\batback.reg

Re[5]: Moving registry entries?

2001-05-19 Thread Michael David

Hi David!

I keep all my mail directories in a TBMail directory within my "My
Documents" folder. This is because I keep everything that needs to be
backed up in My Documents (and nothing else).

So - all I have to do is move my TBMail directory, import the registry
entries, and install TB. Once the TBMail directory has been copied to
the new computer, it takes less than a minute to up and running right
where I left off.

Yes, caution is indeed necessary and this method of moving installations
should only be done provided that you know and understand what it is that
you're doing.

There are entries within the TB! registry subkey that point to where the
TB! working directory is. You have to either be certain that TB! is placed
in the same location as with the previous installations so that the paths
are undisturbed, or you will have to edit the appropriate registry entries
to reflect the new installation location if the path to the new
installation is changed.

If done correctly, it works very well and it would be as if the
installation had not been moved. No configuration should be lost. I've
done so on four occasions and nothing whatsoever happened. It was as if
the installation had not been moved.

Yes but it is a pain when your directories are in a different location. I
do the following

(1) Move all the directories to where they are required

(2) Start a new account but point it to old mail directory. It does pick up
most (but not all) of the settings.

(3) enter in your reg codes.

Hi Jan!

Moving the MAIL folder, and exporting/importing the registry entires
is by far the easiest way to move TB, IMHO.

No. There are some options set in the registry (i.e. the registration
info) and - sadly - not in an INI. If you want them restored you have
to export and import the registry settings. But as long as you don't
delete or change anything by hand there is no risk in doing it.

Open the registry editor (regedit.exe), search for RITLabs, mark the
registry tree, got to File/Export, save the tree on a floppy. then put
the floppy in your new machine, open it and double click the registry
file you find on it (it's your saved tree). It will be written
