I too think copernic is best of the bunch, and it is indeed
unfortunate it does not index bat folders

Alas, Copernic doesn't. I think there's only a plugin for Google Desktop.

But I do not trust that one.

And I haven't seen any reviews where Google or Yahoo came out better than
Copernic.

I am. After you install the plugin you have to set up its configuration
(i.e. which folders to index, etc.) via Options/Preferences/Plugins and
then do a first "Re-Index Selected" and also select "Monitor selected
folders on exit".

In GDT Prefrences, aside of "The Bat! E-Mail Client Plug-In" under
Complements, which should be ticked after installing the plugin, you
also need to tick the option for Email under Search Types. My GDT is in
Spanish so the English translations I provided may not be exact.

That is not my experience, maybe you are using an old version. Mine
searches, by default, all hard drives in the system. And you can even
add (or exclude) drives or folders from other systems in the network.

I think Copernic is even better (and safer?)... :-)

Personally I think the Google Desktop is rather naff, it doesn't search across
more than one hard disk. In contrast, the Yahoo desktop search lets you
configure which bits of the computer and which file types you want indexed. And
you can turn the Yahoo one off more easily to save on resources.

What do you mean by "given it time to index my messages"? Have you
configured the plugin? If so, I would suggest that after selecting which
folders you want to index, you manually do a Re-index.

Have you also configured it? In my version of TB! I go to
Options->Preferences->Plugins, select the plugin and tick all the mailboxes
that I want indexed.

Huh. I had asked for a plug-in like that (or rather, I had asked that TB!
had a search feature as powerful and fast as GDS, but I daydream and
digress) and there wasn't anything available (or nobody knew) when I
asked.

What hangs - TB or GDS?

You did all that just to make it work and it didn't?
