It's compressed, like a zip file.

If  you  check "Addressbook" as part of your backup, it will be there.
You should check everything to be backed up and you will be fine.

The  proper  way to restore a backup is placing the backup file on the
new  system,  install  TB  and on the first run you tell TB to restore
from backup. After the restore you close TB and restart it.
That way even the registry settings should be restored

Yes, the only things that won't be preserved this way are the registry
settings like window size and placement.

I tried the Backup - Restore solution without success. Restore can not
"merge" the restore if you had already fetched some mails from the mail
server. My solution was to copy the folder structure to the new system and
then install TheBat into this folder structure.

Tools - Backup to create the backup file.

Do a fresh install on the new disk and then Tools - Restore from the backup 
file.
