I believe the default also comes with plugins for Hotmail and Yahoo. I
haven't tried these, but this should offer some nice alternatives for

I haven't spent any time with the Web interface. All of my mail
through Gmail has been encrypted, so I don't think searching would
help much. I'll be curious to to what types of advertisements I

There is an older version of FreePOPs that supports SSL. I used it and

Well even if it is possible, it beats the purpose of having a GMail
account. The GMail account as features in its web based interface
which you will not be able to use at all. Why not just sign up for
another free POP3 account. Or is it somewhat of a status symbol to
have @Gamil.com address ;-)

at the present time I don't know of a way to do gmail with TB. I know of
no way to use any pop3 email program with GMAIL. www.sourceforge.org has
some new programs on the way, but nothing to download that I know of..
you can look at sourceforge.org, try the search function at the top left
of the page, and put in gmail.

There are two way that I'm aware of.

FreePOPS
http://freepops.sourceforge.net/en/

gPopper
http://www.imizzy.com/gpopper/

Both are relays that you insert between The Bat! and Gmail. Both will
allow you to download your Gmail directly into an account that you
setup in TB. Only gPopper supports SMTP. With FreePOPs you'll have to
use an alternate method of delivery like one of the small SMTP servers
or your ISP.

- From tests that I've done recently, only FreePOPs will preserve the
message integrity allowing inlined or PGP/MIME message to be
downloaded and decrypted without difficulty. The current release of
gPopper changes the message content enough to alter PGP data. Whether
or not GPG/PGP compatibility is important, is up to you. I'm currently
using FreePOPS because I do use GPG.
