MP template, meaning they can only be correctly interpreted when used
MP in a template. I don't mean to patronize - just trying to help.

First, thank you very much. After experimenting with a test group of
test contacts, I finally figured out how to set this up. Once you
explained that I could not use the template macro in a regular message
and only within a template, it was easier for me to get this to work.
This may be elementary, but if one doesn't regularly use macros and
templates

Now, I have another related problem: You wrote that I need to create
the entire message as a Mass Mailing Template. Yet, I want the
message to have as its body the salutation, followed by an image that
is an invitation that I created in MS Publisher and saved as a jpeg
file. In a regular message, I can just copy and paste, so long as I
have the regular message set to HTML and not plain text. How do I
insert my jpeg invitation into the body of the mass mailing, so that
when the message is opened by the recipient, the recipient sees the
image of the invitation?

Secondly, how do I request reading and/or delivery confirmation with
a mass mailing?

A recipient's e-mail address appears in the to field?

MP This is the exact purpose for which the Mass Mailing feature was
MP designed. It will mean generating individual emails for each
MP recipient, but that seems to be the requirement anyway.

MP You can use
MP %TO='%ABtoHANDLE %TOADDR'
MP to set the addressing of the email as you wish.

I am still confused. This may be elementary, but I need some step by
step hand-holding.

If I create a mail message that I want to go to all 100 contacts in a
group, what do I do to easily accomplish that? The only way I know to
get a mail message to automatically go to everyone in the group is to
open up the address book, highlight the group and then click on new
message. The group handle will appear in the to field followed by
list

If I send the e-mail that way, every address will appear in the to
field in the recipient's e-mail. If I cut and paste that information
into the BCC field, then the recipient won't see anything in the to
field.

I tried to place %ABtoHANDLE %TOADDR in the to field, but that
yielded an error message:

Message has not been sent. Server reply - 5.1.2 or other punctuation
after the recipient's email address. qo3sm17010535igc.8

MP ... snip

A (3) Finally, I want to personalize each e-mail by placing into the
A e-mail's salutation whatever I have placed in a contact's
A Nickname.Dear John, Jane, and Charlie What am I doing wrong?

MP This specific field is accessed as %ABtoHANDLE.

This didn't work either. I wrote in the body of the e-mail (without
the quotation marks) the following:

Dear %ABtoHANDLE,

However, my test e-mails were received with the above text, as if
%ABto HANDLE was a name like any other rather than a signal to
insert the text of what actually was in the handle for each contact,
such as John, Jane and Charlie

What am I doing wrong?

Hi Mitja, thanks for the reply.

This problem also occurs, sometimes, when I am trying to
download
email. I then get a No Data error message.

While it *may* be the ISP, I am thinking, right now, it is not.
I
have not seen such problems in the past year using The Bat, all
the
*extra's* I am using, firewalls and such. It's a new problem in
the
 past couple of months.

I will post, back here, when I am seeing these problems.

Yes, Ricardo -- that is it -- very random. Yet, it occurs at

Re[2]: Sending messages

2001-08-03 Thread Andy Lurig

That's not exactly the problem (just to clarify)...
The worm brought down the server to
most attempts, so after you try and send it once, and it fails, it
just sits in the outbox until you Click to send it again... In cases
like this, I'd like to just walk away and know that TB! will keep
trying without me.

As far as your problem... when I click SEND it sends all the messages
in the Outbox... sure, if you open that specific message and send just
that I can understand why it wouldn't send other messages in the
Outbox... if you wanted to send them all, you use the SEND on the
toolbar.

MK I reported a similar bug report to RIT Labs about this the other day.

MK If the SMTP mail server is unresponsive, messages queued in the Outbox
MK are not sent when you are able to successfully send e-mail messages
MK through the SMTP mail sever. You have to double-click on the messages
MK in the Outbox and click Send on each one. Seems like The Bat! would
MK know that if there are queued messages in the Outbox and other
MK messages are successfully sent out through the SMTP mail server, the
MK queued messages would automatically get sent too.

Ditto on these comments.. same situation here.
I see all the new versions do the same thing my old one does!!!
