Re[2]: sending messages to a group; templates
Hi Marck, Sunday, July 8, 2012, 6:16:59 PM, you wrote: A I tried to place %ABtoHANDLE %TOADDR in the to field, but that A yielded an error message: MP Yes - these are *template* macros. The clue here is the word MP template, meaning they can only be correctly interpreted when used MP in a template. I don't mean to patronize - just trying to help. First, thank you very much. After experimenting with a test group of test contacts, I finally figured out how to set this up. Once you explained that I could not use the template macro in a regular message and only within a template, it was easier for me to get this to work. This may be elementary, but if one doesn't regularly use macros and templates Now, I have another related problem: You wrote that I need to create the entire message as a Mass Mailing Template. Yet, I want the message to have as its body the salutation, followed by an image that is an invitation that I created in MS Publisher and saved as a jpeg file. In a regular message, I can just copy and paste, so long as I have the regular message set to HTML and not plain text. How do I insert my jpeg invitation into the body of the mass mailing, so that when the message is opened by the recipient, the recipient sees the image of the invitation? Secondly, how do I request reading and/or delivery confirmation with a mass mailing? -- Best regards, Avi Avram Sacks Using The Bat ver. 4.0.18 on Win XP Pro sp3 Current version is 4.2.42 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Hello Marck, Sunday, July 8, 2012, 4:50:17 PM, you wrote: A (1) Is there a way to send an e-mail to a group such that ONLY the A recipient's e-mail address appears in the to field? MP You can use MP %TO='%ABtoHANDLE %TOADDR' MP to set the addressing of the email as you wish. I am still confused. This may be elementary, but I need some step by step hand-holding. If I create a mail message that I want to go to all 100 contacts in a group, what do I do to easily accomplish that? The only way I know to get a mail message to automatically go to everyone in the group is to open up the address book, highlight the group and then click on new message. The group handle will appear in the to field followed by list If I send the e-mail that way, every address will appear in the to field in the recipient's e-mail. If I cut and paste that information into the BCC field, then the recipient won't see anything in the to field. I tried to place %ABtoHANDLE %TOADDR in the to field, but that yielded an error message: Message has not been sent. Server reply - 5.1.2 or other punctuation after the recipient's email address. qo3sm17010535igc.8 MP ... snip A (3) Finally, I want to personalize each e-mail by placing into the A e-mail's salutation whatever I have placed in a contact's A Nickname.Dear John, Jane, and Charlie What am I doing wrong? MP This specific field is accessed as %ABtoHANDLE. This didn't work either. I wrote in the body of the e-mail (without the quotation marks) the following: Dear %ABtoHANDLE, However, my test e-mails were received with the above text, as if %ABto HANDLE was a name like any other rather than a signal to insert the text of what actually was in the handle for each contact, such as John, Jane and Charlie What am I doing wrong? -- Avi Avram Sacks Using The Bat ver. 4.0.18 on WinXP Pro sp3 and Win7 Home Current version is 4.2.42 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

I then get a No Data error message. While it *may* be the ISP, I am thinking, right now, it is not. I have not seen such problems in the past year using The Bat, all the *extra's* I am using, firewalls and such. It's a new problem in the past couple of months. I will post, back here, when I am seeing these problems. Re[2]: Sending messages
That's not exactly the problem (just to clarify)... The worm brought down the server to most attempts, so after you try and send it once, and it fails, it just sits in the outbox until you Click to send it again... In cases like this, I'd like to just walk away and know that TB! will keep trying without me. As far as your problem... when I click SEND it sends all the messages in the Outbox... sure, if you open that specific message and send just that I can understand why it wouldn't send other messages in the Outbox... if you wanted to send them all, you use the SEND on the toolbar. -Andy [Proudly created with: The Bat! v1.53d] [Surfing has never been better: Opera 5.12] {Homepage: http://go.to/ucffool/} - - - - - Friday, August 03, 2001, 8:51:49 AM, you wrote: MK On Friday, August 03, 2001, 12:10:32 AM, Andy Lurig wrote: How frequently does The Bat! try and send messages (my SMTP sever is up and down cuz of the work going around)?
