Re[2]: Unable to read untitled.msg attachments (? from Novell Grpwise)

2000-01-16 Thread mharlos

Hi Alexander,

In short: why complain to RIT labs about Novells' bugs? Wouldn't it
be more logical to complain to *Novell* instead?

Certainly, if I knew it was a Novell bug when I asked.

Without the expertise that you have related to these issues, I can
only follow the course of action dictated by logic with the
information available to me...

1. I've not experienced similar problems with the only other client
that I use (Calypso).

2. With TB!, I can't view some attachments from Novell Groupwise.
These same attachments, when re-forwarded back to me and viewed with
Calypso, are fine.

3. I like The Bat!, so in order to sort out this problem, I asked
advice from those of you who know more about this than I do. No
complaining going on here...just asking for help. Until your
explanation, it appeared to me as a TB! problem.

I appreciate your response and accept it. I suspect it will be a
challenge to have this addressed now at the level of our computer
support people in the hospital (who want me to be like everyone else
and have a workstation using only their software), or at the level of
Novell. Still, I'll never know unless I try.

Re[2]: Unable to read untitled.msg attachments (? from Novell Grpwise)

2000-01-16 Thread Tom Plunket

I don't think the problem is Calypso, I think it is something to
do with GroupWise. I know my Dad's secretary forwards him e-mail
messages through GroupWise, and more often than not the same
   problem occurs for him.

I much prefer using TB!; I'd like to be able to figure out this
 attachment issue.

AVK This is *not* the problem of TB, it's rather the problem of
AVK Novell or whatever, as I have already proved in one of my
AVK previous messages...

*My* thoughts on being a software developer and developer of
user-level utilities, is that regardless of the source of errors or
problems, making one's own software able to deal with other peoples
bugs is a good thing and only serves to help your users.

It doesn't matter if the "problem" comes from GroupWise or The Bat!,
what matters is if a user needs something to happen, and it does in a
different piece of software, they *will* use that different piece of
software, regardless of where the problem originates. In other words,
if Calypso fits this person's bill better than The Bat! does, well, I
think they may find that The Bat! is not suited to their task.

Allie berserk. The interesting thing was that this did not occur with earlier

Allie to the PMMail developers who told me that they knew about it and the
Allie problem was with X-it and that I should ask the X-it developers about it.

Allie I wrote to the X-it developers only to be told that the problem was

.This attitude of different suppliers has always existed from the very
first computers.
One of the reasons when building mainframes we got as much as possible
all the parts from the same place to avoid this shuffle why something
doesnt work.

However in this case it seems to me that Novel should be told they
have a bug or a secret feature.
On the other hand, arent programs reading 'field data' which can have
bugs/mistakes supposed to ignore obvious mistakes in email formats or
compensate for it.
Most of my own programs did as otherwise everytime they hit a problem
I had to go and fix it manually...
It shouldnt be that much work to let the bat ignore this error and
then one can advertise the bat as working with Novell...

This is my impression as well. This has happened with several
messages, and the only common thread is GroupWise.

When I receive my forwarded messages with Calypso, there is never a
problem with such attachments. I forwarded the same "untitled.msg"
back to myself, and re-downloaded it with Calypso. I viewed the
attachment without a problem.

I much prefer using TB!; I'd like to be able to figure out this

Hi Alexander,

Okay, can you MIME-attach one of these offending messages
and let us see what's the matter with it?

Here is one...(attached)

Thanks
