Send-Display Discrepancy (WAS: Trasnfering/synching with outlook)

2002-09-02 Thread Eddie Castelli

Dear Eddie,

 --->>> Eddie Castelli / Montag, 02.09.2002, 11:06:41
Trasnfering/synching with outlook

Something strange I just discovered on this ML.
On 8:36 this morning 'Alaeddin Muntasser' posted a question on this
  ML <[EMAIL PROTECTED]">mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> about Msg Export
  from TB!.
On 11:06 I postet an answer
  <[EMAIL PROTECTED]">mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.

By coincidence I discovered that my posted msg Text has being altered
to make it look like someone else did respond to Alaeddin's question.

I made a Screenshot from my posting (as it is stored in the Inbox and
as it has arrived on this lsit). You can access the picture on my
Server ...
www.EddieCastelli.com/pub/thebat/pic/Send-Display_discrepancy_in_TBudl.jpg

After experiencing several strange behaviors in the past while posting
eMails to ML and sending PM to Friends and Sponsors - for me it seems
that ML as this are welcomed playground for those who wish to develop
tools and procedures to put them self in a position to manipulate and
discredit other citizen of this planet.

This one is no mystery and has a very simple explanation. Some MTAs
will add a '>' to the beginning of lines that start with the word
'From' because in "Unix MTA speak" (some, not all) the word "From"
at the start of a line denotes the start of a new message header
set. I'm not sure which MTA did the deed though.

- From <<< this line is a decoy to see if we can entice a routing MTA
to adorn it. My MTA here at silverstones.com doesn't. It may be the
mailman server that is doing it. It may be only some folks' routing
MTAs on the way out of mailman. We'll see.

Marck, most all messages passing through GMX will have lines beginning
with "from" adorned with the quote prefix... and one reason I no longer
use my GMX Account. Is that the question you were asking?

Your signature remains good and yet the dash is added to escape the
line beginning with 'From'. It would appear that GPG is doing that
as it does here. If an MTA did this then your signature would have
been broken.

Okay - point proven. It seems like the new host servers do it.

Ummm not exactly. That's a "lanyard," not a "petard."

For information on "petard," take a look here:

- From Miriam-Webster online:
1 : a case containing an explosive to break down a door or gate or breach a wall

To be hoist by your own petard is to blow yourself up.
