Be sure that you're using the same registry editors in both Win98 and
Win2k. I've had problems doing exports with regedt32.exe and trying to
import using regedit.exe.

So .. how do I share data? My desktop is a w2k system. The
 laptop is a win98.

The registry key used by TB is

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT\The Bat!]

in both Win98 and Win2k, but the export from Win2k regedit would
start with the following line:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

which makes the regedit in Win98 to reject it, for the latter is
version 4.

I've no idea what changes have been made to the exported .reg file
format, most likely a new data type or two that Win98 registry (or
regedit) doesn't support. There's nothing of this sort (AFAIK) under
the [...\The Bat!] key, so you should be able to import it after
replacing the "... 5.00" line and replace it with "REGEDIT4". I
haven't tried it, though. (It's always a good idea to backup the
registry before messing with it.)

Hi David,

It is likely that there is a difference in registry structure between
W2k and W9x. You will have to export from both and compare the
resultant .reg files (which are usually plain text).

With moderator's hat on now, it is not good form on these lists to
'Reply' when creating a new topic. It messes up threading. If you feel
you have to then make sure you remove the References and In-reply-To
headers (although it is quicker to use "New" in the first place).

Sharing between desktop and laptop

2000-09-05 Thread David Tod Sigafoos

Last week I asked about sharing data between TB on my desktop and my
laptop.

I was told to simply export TB from the registry and import into the
laptop.

SO I went to my office machine, Start/Run/Regedit and did the export.
Then I copied the file to my laptop and Start/Run/Regedit and import.
Selected the file and POW!!! i was told it wasnt are real registry
file. Imagine my surprise after so many said it was so simple.

So .. how do I share data? My desktop is a w2k system. The laptop is
a win98.

if anyone from tb is there maybe they could chime in.
