I can recommend MS-Andale Mono. It has this major advantage over the
other fonts mentioned here that it is a extended font. It supports
many different code sets. 

It displayes and prints a dot in a zero.

It is, but the application needs to allow you to select it. There are a
few different types of font formats in Windows, and some applications,
to my annoyance as well, do not let you select from every type.

When I encountered this problem with TB, I found the best alternative to
my usual font was Bitstream Vera Sans Mono. I use it at 10pt for viewing
source, and 12pt for editing. This is a monospaced font that looks like
a variable-width sans-serif font (Trebuchet/Tahoma-ish). It also uses a
"dot-zero", which is similar to a "slash-zero".

Elsewhere, I use Raize and that implements a "slash-zero". I would use it
in TB if allowed. I consider this a TB bug, but no one seems to care much.

The font used for printing is, often configurably, different from the
font used for display on screen. The application should allow you to
select a font for display and a font for printing, or at the very least
use the same for printing that it uses for display.

UltraEdit allow this configurability iirc, though I must say I explicitly
avoid owning a printer and encumber myself for this strange ideal.

I'd say your least annoying and most practical option is to find a
truetype/opentype format font which implements the slash zero you seek.

I have set Notepad to use Terminal. It displays and prints the slash
0.

On another installation though the same font printed zeros with a dot
in the centre.

It might be a question to ask in comp.fonts

The first place I tried that font (since I was already in email) was

I saw (in a tiny texst editor program) that it *does* display a slash
zero on screen *BUT* it still seems to print a standard zero.

Try Terminal. It is on of the MS System fonts, so it should be on any
Windows machine.

Hello Batters!

Anyone know a decent way to ensure my PC displays and prints slash
zeros rather than letter O-like zeros?

I suppose finding a suitable font and switching all my programs to
use it as a default could be the answer, but I have yet to come across
one.

I know there's a way to tell MS Word to display (& print?) an
upper-case O then backup up and overlay a slash! Not worth the
trouble.

Maybe edit some current font myself and "fix" the zero or maybe
substitute a character from a Finnish character set!
