TB! and Windows Explorer

Hello!

I have been having major frustrations with archiving some of my mail
folders with Mailbag Assistant. I think I finally have it figured out,
but it has brought to light an interesting discovery and I am
interested in your opinions.

It would appear, after much tearing out of hair, that Windows Explorer
has not been updating it's TB! information according to changes I have
made over time within TB! For instance - at various times I have
rearranged my accounts and folders - TBUDL mail once went to Account A
and now goes to Account B. For some reason these changes have not been
mirrored in Explorer...and consequently when I have attempted to load
my TBUDL mail for archiving purposesMailbag Assistant has become
confused.

I seem to have corrected the problem by deleting one account and
re-creating it, re-creating my TBUDL folders, and emptying trash and
re-booting between all these operations. Explorer *now* appears to be
in synch with TB! Hopefully, things will now work as they should.

My question really is, why has Explorer *not* been keeping up with
changes I have made with TB! Is this an Explorer issue or a TB! one?

While I may well have solved the problem for now, I wonder if a
similar situation will occur the *next* time I make changes in TB!

Any enlightening comments gratefully received!

For me, I've noted that TB! will not rename account folders when you
rename the accounts via the TB! interface. However, I've been making a
lot of changes *within* accounts for the last couple weeks and all
folder names and movements have been exactly reflected in the explorer
folder tree. I even moved three folders from one account to another
and this was accurately reflected in explorer.

But hold on. If you move folders around in TB!, it *will* break any
shortcuts that you may have created in Mailbag Assistant, since the
shortcuts are pointing to the folders original location and not where
you moved them to.

I don't see how Mailbag Assistant would get confused unless you're
referring to bookmarks/shortcuts that you created. Otherwise it's you
who have to manually navigate to the message bases.

TB! seems to keep up here at my end. If the changes aren't being
reflected in Explorer then it's TB!'s fault.

DAC what does that do to filters?

The filters update themselves to reflect the changes. :-) This can be
thrill to behold since I tend to move folders around and extensively
filter.

** I think TB! may be having problems with updating the filters when
nested folders are relocated. However, I'm using a beta version and
this may just be the problem. It however makes the changes when you
change folder names, account names or change the target folder
locations when you move them, even when you move them across accounts.

Allie,

Thanks for your reply. I should have mentioned that I have only just
begun to use Mailbag Assistant, and have therefore no shortcuts were
in existence.

It is difficult to explain...but I will try!

Originally all my TBUDL mail went to Account A...sometime earlier this
year I altered everything and my TBUDl mail then went to AccountB. All
the folders in the TB! interface were as they should have been and all
my sorting filters were working fine.

When I got Mailbag Assistant earlier this week, I successfully
archived the mail in my other accounts and folders with no problems.
When I went to archive my TBUDL mail, Mailbag could only *find* 10
mails - and there were over 900 in the folders. I was pointing Mailbag
to the correct folder and there was no way it would come up with the
total number of mails. When I snooped around in Explorer...I found
that there were remnants of the TBUDL folders which had originally
been in Account A. These I deleted but it made no difference.

There were *additional* sent and received folders under that account
in Explorerwhich *I* did not create. The only way I been able to
resolve this problem was to follow the steps outlined in my original
post. So far, all mail coming in is going where it should and Mailbag
is now *reading* the correct number of mails.

I know this probably makes no sense...it makes even less to me...but
something weird has definitely happened at some point to corrupt
Explorer's *catching up* on changes that have been made in the past in
TB! itself. I will watch with interest to see if a similar problem
occurs if and when I make any future adjustments within TB!

Thanks again for your help.

Just as an after thought. One of my accounts currently has *no*
messages in either Inbox or Sent.

However, when I look in Explorer...those two folders show up as having
messages in them. Surely if there are no messages in the actual
folder, then the mirror folder in Explorer should also show none? Or
am I missing something here?
