TB on 2 computers

2000-09-21 Thread Katsmeow

Hi

I am temporarily needed to use TB on two computers. On one of the
computers I am getting the mail during the day but not deleting
messages from the server except for mail I am discarding. Then in
the evening I am getting all the
mail. After getting the evenings mail I want to copy everything
over
to the other computer I use during the day. I know I have to copy
the
mail program. Do I also have to copy over the registry if I
haven't
made any changes to folder or account properties, filters, etc. and
have just gotten mail and kept some of that mail.

Also, one of the computers is a notebook with a 15" UXGA (1620x1200)
display while the other is a notebook with a 14.1 XGA screen. So, the
resolutions are vastly different. As a result for the UXGA screen I
use larger fonts than I want to use on the XGA screen. However when I
copy over the registry info it sets the fonts on the XGA notebook some
as on the UXGA but, of course, they display enormous. This is another
reason I don't like copying over the registry info.

Hi Thomas,

TF your question?

Not exactly. What I am saying is let's say that in the evening I
receive mail and send mail on one computer but I do not add any
folders, or filters, or change the display of columns, etc. All I do
is receive mail, filter it to appropriate folders, and then send new
mail. If I then just copy over the mail folder to my other computer
but do not copy over the registry what happens? Will the second
computer have it in the mail that is in the 1st computer and will it
operate even though the registry has not been copied over? I don't
want to copy the registry every night becuase (1) it is pain to do and
(2) the second computer needs to use different font sizes and column
width settings than the first computer and if I copy the registry over
these things get changed. So, if it would work OK I would prefer to
only copy over the mail folder and then only copy over the registry
when I've made significant changes to the accounts or filters or
templates.

(My apologies to the list for posting my original message more than
once. MDaemon said it had bounced so I resent it after rewriting it
slightly. I then found out that the original message had posted.)

If the folder structure in both programmes are identical then you will
get what you desire, i.e, appropriate updating of your message bases.

You don't have to copy over the registry settings at all.

There was one user who did just this each day. He had two installations
of TB! with identical accounts and folder structures. Each time he went
home he would backup his mail folders and then restore them on his home
computer and vice versa.

The only account related data in the registry that I know of are the
paths to the various mail folders on your hard disk.
