Hi,

you used the ISO-8859-15 encoding for your message. If you do so, you
shouldn't (can't) use a ´ in your message because it is not included in the
ISO-8859-15 charset. The Bat shows a Ž instead of a ´ if it knows of
8859-15 (like The Bat 1.54 with fixed 8859-15 encoding). Using '
should work better, I think. ;-)

May I remind you, it was us - the users - telling RITLabs to not
release a Christmas version (thought I've told it just a few days ago)
because it would greatly harm TB!'s reputation. Just think of good
programmes that have been harmed by too early releases (Netscape's
Navigator/Communicator for one).

From what I can see in the current beta TB! is nearing a release, but
there are still at least two major bugs to straighten out (optimising
memory handling for the RTFV under Win9x and some quirks with the CC).

Another thing that has to be said, RITLabs has changed the
developmental environment during the 1.54 beta series from Delphi 2 to
Delphi 6 opening up a new can of worms.

That is the long version of WIR.

There _was_ a problem with new features being added at too great a

Certainly, since about beta 25, I've felt no need to go back to

Hi Nick,

Personally, I also prefer my software more than relatively bug free
though I appreciate that most/all software has bugs of one sort or
another. I am happy to wait until things are right, as would most
people who rely on software to run their business.

Meanwhile, I am enjoying the best e-mail client I have yet encountered
one that already does more than I need, more reliably and with
less fuss than any other.

The only things I would personally change are the dodgy looking button
images and the uncertainty of whether I will have to pay to upgrade
when a new version does arrive. Given that I am about to pay for my
copies (16 more days!) I don't fancy shelling out again in a month or
so!

BTW, anyone know where to find some more classy buttons?

You can replace those images. Some alternative sets are here:

So far all upgrades were free. I also heard somewhere that those who
licensed 1.5x+ will have free upgrade to 2 (when it arrives).

It seems to me, as someone who has been thru nearly all the betas for
1.54, that some of the people who usually eschew betas but are a
little risk accepting, if they are impatient for the next release
could come on over the the beta and the beta list, although they
should think twice if they are running 9.x. I used it a long time with
9.x and put up with the memory loss crashes, but anyone moving to the
beta now should know that is probably the main reason 1.54 remains a
beta.

I'd like an estimate for when it is due and a list of the expected

hasn't been updated a single time in the nine months I've been using

I've found in my own experience that a WIR attitude can often mean
expect to wait a long time, or maybe never see the software at all.
That may not be the case here, but it's worrisome.

Yes, I would agree with you that WIR was a very poor answer, or at
least not the one you were looking for. I, along with Dierk who gave you
that answer, belong to TBBETA and as such have been privy to all the
1.54 Beta releases so we see first hand the ongoing development of TB.
You on the other hand... and many others... have been patiently waiting

All I can say is that the wait will have been worth while... and
