I didn't mean that technically but legally. Admittedly my machine
would be at the lower end of MS's technical requirements. But they not
just discourage the use of XP on a 95 machine. You have to buy a
completely new XP.

98 and ME are not excluded, so it is not a technological question but
pure marketing. That fits. A few days ago I wanted to install IE 6
over my 5.5, as I've heard that it is faster and more stable. Guess
what, Win95 is not supported anymore.

How many machines with Win 95 would actually be capable of running XP
anyway? I agree that a clean install is the way to go, it's what I did.
I've heard some horror stories about XP but I haven't had problems with
it.

 1. MS don't offer an upgrade from 95.
 2. Some of my (needed) hardware is not and will not be supported
 - my soundcard: Guillemot Maxi Studio ISIS.
 3. There may also be some problems with incorporating my graphics
 adapter Matrox Millenium G400 DH.

And I am not inclined to buy a new computer with some not to cheap
components just to get it running with a new software - regardless if
it be an OS or any kind of application.

The new computer has arrived, and I have successfully transferred The
Bat! and all my other software.

What I actually did was export the registry keys to my Bat email
folder (on D:), move the D: drive to the new computer, install The
Bat! on the new computer, import the registry keys, and restore the
user preferences and address books from backup. It all worked
perfectly.

OT: I like Windows XP, although I wouldn't buy an upgrade for an old
computer. The GUI is rather slow in some things (I haven't yet had
time to look into tweaking it), but I like the basic design and the
new Start menu.

Just save out the part of the registry needed.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/RIT right click on the "RIT" folder and select
export. To put it back in the registry of the new machine just double click
the icon of the file you saved out, you'll be asked if you want to copy it
to the new registry, just select yes.

Yep, spot on and works a treat. FWIW in the last month I've transported TB
and several thousand messages between a Laptop with Win98se, My own machine
that had WinME and I've just updated it to XP without problems.

Not in my experience.

Shouldn't think so, but I added the registry entry first.

Can't personally see the point of doing it that way.

I forgot my password ages ago so that's part of the reason I save out the
registry entry.
