Trial period expired - TB! blocked

2002-08-20 Thread Joyce Sala

Dear TUBDL listers,

I am now in a kafkaeske quandary:

About 10 days ago, a couple of days before the initial 30 days trial period
expired, I went to the site and BOUGHT the CD full version of the TB! 1.61. It
cost me US55.- plus shipping, thank you.

On day 30 TB! "yelled at me" that the trial period was finished, would I
want an extra extension of 7 days' evaluation? I obviusly said yes, hoping to
get the stuff by then.

Well, the 7 days are up, TB! will refuse to open unless I register, but -
predictably - it asks me for ID nos. I do not have yet, as I have not yet
received the package. I have NO desire to go and pay an additional US$35 for an
online registration, and yet I cannot even READ my previous mail now.

How do you think I can get out of this mess? Needless to say, I'm back to
OE6 now...

Please help!

Thanks in Advance

You could first try to contact the distributor you ordered the CD at and
ask about the state of your order.
Additionally you could drop a mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED], explain your
situation, what e-mail-address you used to order/register and how to solve
this problem; they might be able to help you quickly or describe what
actions are necessary.

Hi Peter,

You could first try to contact the distributor you ordered the
CD at and
ask about the state of your order.
The distributor was cifnet, the only one showing on the TB! site.
I sent them an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED], no response yet.
Trouble is, that not having their order no., I don't know how they
can trace me

Same here: how can I prove I'm saying the truth, if I don't have
the order data? I don't even remember what credit card I've used
(I've got 6 of them, and the statements haven't come in yet)!

Somebody suggested I go to a cracker's site to find the patch
around it: besides my feeling very uncomfortable with the idea, I
don't even know what file to look for, nor do I know if this won't
cause me problems when I finally install the CD version of it...

All advice is welcome.

TIA

Joyce

There is a thing I don't understand here. Are you sure that it is the
version 1.61 in the boxed version? It used to be 1.49.

Hi,

If you can solve your problem with the information of emails that you
think you can't access anymore, you simply open the Messages.tbb file
(in the Inbox or Outbox folder of your mail account) with a common text
viewer (TextPad, Notepad, the internal viewer of Windows Commander, and
maybe even Windows Explorer).

remember looking for the most updated version coming in a box.

But then again... if I could read my mail

But now I in the site that it is not specified:(

Try sending a message to Ritlabs and ask them nicely for another
extension. I don't know whether it is technically possible, but it is
worth a try.

Also, coming from the freight forwarding business, I would ask the
people from who you bought the boxed version how they sent it. If they
sent it by courier (FedEx, DHL, UPS or the like), there is a shipment
tracking number which you should ask for. With this number you can
trace the shipment on the internet, or I can do that for you if you
send me the tracking number (and the name of courier company they
used). If the box is about to arrive today, there is no need to panic.

The distributor was cifnet, the only one showing on the TB! site. I sent
them an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED], no response yet.

I had similar experience with cifnet where my online order was not filled
for couple of weeks. And no response for several enquiring emails.

It is, however, promptly handled once I called cifnet. It turns out that
my order was red-flagged because I am using a foreign (non-US) credit
card.

So forget about email, give them a call;-)
