Where does said management type think that the information used by
ArborText Epic comes from? Magic?

I could see where a properly designed and used setup may call for fewer
technical writers, but things don't just appear in ArborText or any
other program without some human input. Someone still has to enter
information somehow and tag it properly for use. Yes, engineers could be
taught to do this--but then you will probably need more engineers.

It's probably also telling that within the past year, I have seen three
separate postings advertising open tech writer positions with PTC, the
company that owns ArborText. Of course, they could be for the same position
each time, but I don't think they were.

There are no AI engines that are good enough to replace human beings. My
company has done (and is doing more) research in this kind of area and
whilst theory suggests it is possible, replicating it in a
production/business environment is decades away at present.
