[TCP] TCP site

2008-01-04 Thread Lisa Gielczyk (TCP ADMIN)
Hi everyone, and Happy New Year!

Since there have been a number of new members joining in the past
week, I wanted to mention the changes that are coming on the TCP
website. I'm converting the site to Drupal, which will give it a great
new look, along with extra features like an integrated wiki and tech
comm blog space for every registered member (site registration is
separate from list registration).

One reason for writing a tech comm blog is for project implementation
notes. If you are setting up a new program or technology, you can
write about stages, tips and tricks, and other items of interest in
your blog so others can find them in the future. Another reason is
there are topics that really don't belong on the list. Instead of
starting a conversation on the list, you would write about it in your
blog, then send a message to the list informing everyone there's a new
topic to discuss on your blog. Then, people can comment on the post.
Discussions about STC fall into this category.

It's taking me longer to do the conversion than I expected it would.
Some things in Drupal that have been giving me fits! :) But, the site
will go live next week or the week after. If all the features aren't
ready at that time, I will add them over the following weeks.

Anyone interested in blog space or writing a review or other article
can start now. Just write to me offlist, and I'll send you the URL for
the new site.

Have a great day!

Re: [TCP] TCP Site - Want a Wiki?

2006-11-28 Thread Thomas Johnson
The topics we would cover would not necessarily be in Wikipedia. Wikipedia
is a wiki with a certain purpose--an online encyclopedia that anyone can
edit. A TW wiki would cover technical communication topics and ideas. The
entries might include encyclopedic topics, but they might also be discussion
threads, or they might be essays on TW. It all depends on how it's set up
and its stated purpose.

Hi Lisa,

If I search the Web for a topic and get multiple hits, some in the Wikipedia
and some in the TW wiki, would I expect a significant difference between
Wikipedia and the TW wiki?

Re: [TCP] TCP Site - Want a Wiki?

2006-11-28 Thread Martinek, Carla
Yes, I can see the a wiki being useful for the group. For example,
suppose I post a tw-related article. I could have a Comments/Discussion
section at the bottom of it, which would allow others to contribute, ask
questions, etc. The article is preserved for easy access in a
designated area of the Wiki.

And yes, I would participate and find it useful.

I'm not as familiar with wiki as I probably should be -- so yes, let's play
with one!
