Re: [TCP] ADMIN Re: Postings on TCP are being archived by another service
I've gotten a couple in the last few days, but not bad...at my work address. I'm on a couple other lists, HATT, techwr-l, techcomm, and Doc to Help forums... This is the first ever I've gotten any spam at all, I'd guess it's from one of these lists. Tim M. Nope. In the couple of years that I've been using gmail -- for personal mail, techwr-l, tcp, various STC and Yahoo lists - I can count the number of spam that have made it past the filter on the fingers of one hand. -Sue Gallagher On 10/29/07, Sue Heim [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I've received a couple of spam email messages in the last few days to my Gmail email. The reason I did it was as a service to members and non-members alike, so that they can search the archives of the list and find answers to questions. A closed archive would turn people away; an open archive draws them in, increases our membership, and provides more collective wisdom from which people can get help. If spam is a concern, you might consider using a different email address for email lists than you use for your regular email communication. Personally, I have not seen any increase in spam, and I have not heard anyone else say they have, either. Regarding having what you say available outside of the membership of the list, I've always maintained that you shouldn't say anything in email (on a list or otherwise) that you wouldn't want to see published in the newspaper. If you have a situation to discuss that you don't want your name associated with, like asking for suggestions how to deal with an unreasonable boss, whether or not you're being underpaid and should ask for a raise, how to work with an difficult co-worker, when to give it up and look for a different job, etc., posts can be made anonymously. The TCP list information page (http://techcommpros.com/mailman/listinfo/tcp_techcommpros.com) has a link to the archive. I will change the Welcome message so that when people join the list, they know the archives are public. Rhonda and Sue, and anyone else sharing their concerns, I sincerely hope you will continue to post! If there are any other questions, please let me know. Quoting Sue Heim [EMAIL PROTECTED]: I've received a couple of spam email messages in the last few days to my Gmail email. Since the ONLY list I use this address for is THIS list, and since I don't use it anywhere else, I'm wondering if that archive service is not the best thing for me. Has anyone else seen spam the past few days? Yes. I am officially out of town but have been checking email. I've seen a significant amount over the past few days. I was beginning to wonder if Postini had fallen down on its job, or if my auto-replies were triggering the onslaught. Dana W.
