FWIW, one of the few worms that can attack Macs does so by slipping in
when this "remeber recent items" is turned on. Both it and the Quicktime
AutoPlay should be turned off to limit this worm's access to the OS.

I have a bunch of new ones Rex and they have not done what you describe but there is that dang update software thing that kicks on automatically at a certain time each day and makes the computer appear to be locked up.  I finally shut that option off.  There is another issue with Mac's that is remember recent used items in the Apple menu options and if on it is on and more than one person logs onto the server it appears to lock up also.  It does finally find the correct user folder but that is a must to have shut off with multiple users.
